We will now continue with Dr. Edgar Posadas, spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense.
00:08
Good evening, Director. This is Dominic Almilor of PTV Ulatbayan Weekend.
00:13
Good evening, Don. Good evening to all the viewers of your program.
00:18
Director, in the past month, how many were affected by the typhoon Marseille and which places were the most affected, Director?
00:27
As of now, there are 21,273 families or 65,610 individuals.
00:42
We also have 8,383 families or 24,516 individuals who are living in evacuation centers.
00:57
So far, we have not reported deaths until now.
01:03
We have also reported preemptively evacuated before the typhoon, 11,858 families or 34,501 individuals in Regions 1, 2 and Cordillera.
01:21
Director, are there still people left in evacuation centers, especially now that the typhoon is about to hit?
01:29
As of late, we have 365 evacuation centers in place catering to 8,319 families or 24,369.
01:48
You're right because what we're looking at is possible that this will be the one that will carry the typhoon Nika.
01:56
Maybe that's why we're not letting them go home yet.
02:00
What we know is that our local governments are making arrangements to let our countrymen go home safely.
02:11
But because of the typhoon, we're expecting Nika by Monday.
02:18
So I think it's better to let them go home first, especially to the possible places where the typhoon will pass through.
02:27
They should stay in places that are safe, especially evacuation centers and temporary domes.
02:34
Director, as of now, according to your monitoring, all the floods have subsided?
02:41
There are still areas that we are monitoring the floods.
02:47
But in general, it's already flooding.
02:52
That's why we are moving a little.
02:55
We are maximizing on that window so that we can augment the help and preposition for the next floods.
03:11
We are seeing about two to three more after Marseilles.
03:16
So we are preparing for that.
03:19
Director, as of now, how important are the affected areas?
03:24
How is it in the sector of agriculture, Director?
03:28
As of now, our sector of agriculture, we still don't have a batch yet.
03:39
But we have a cost of assistance that we have given.
03:43
This is in terms of family food packs and non-food items.
03:48
In terms of domes, it's already up to 3.687 million and counting.
03:57
We are continuing to assist our countrymen, which is also the order of our President to provide quality care,
04:05
including medical care, especially in evacuation centers.
04:10
And others, such as clean water.
04:13
Of course, they will have a safe place to live, food, family packs, hygiene kits.
04:19
And for those who will start preparing again, we are offering family shelter kits
04:28
so that they can at least compose their homes.
04:32
The affected areas of Marseilles are already damaged.
04:35
Director, in the next typhoon and the current typhoon,
04:39
do we have enough resources to meet all the needs of our countrymen affected by the typhoon?
04:49
We have enough resources, Dom.
04:52
We are very busy.
04:56
In fact, our officials went to those areas
05:02
so that they can personally supervise and look after the condition.
05:06
Because we also see it personally.
05:08
Of course, we have our regional directors, regional offices that are coordinating.
05:15
That's what we were ordered to do, to coordinate in all levels,
05:18
especially to the local governments, to offer assistance and inform them.
05:26
So yes, we have enough resources for now.
05:32
In fact, we will continue to augment.
05:36
As I said earlier, we are maximizing the opportunity,
05:40
that window of opportunity where the time is still okay.
05:44
We are maximizing all available routes, either by land, by sea or by air,
05:50
depending on which is the fastest.
05:53
Dom, I will just repeat.
05:54
For now, we still have the road sections.
05:58
You mentioned the flooded areas earlier.
06:00
But for now, as of today, we still have 30 roads in three regions.
06:07
Regions 1, 2 and CAR, which are not yet passable.
06:12
We also have 24 bridges.
06:15
All of these, Dom, are in Region 2.
06:19
The ones that were not passable are now passable.
06:22
We have 11 of them, Dom.
06:24
Four in Region 2 and seven in CAR.
06:27
Director, regarding the situation of the volcanic eruption in Canlaon,
06:32
what is the mandate and preparation of the Office of Civil Defense,
06:36
especially in worst-case scenarios,
06:38
if there will be a strong eruption there, Director?
06:43
Yes, Dom.
06:44
We are not taking this lightly.
06:46
This is the mandate of our White Kalihim, Secretary Todoro,
06:50
who is also the chair of the NDRMC.
06:52
Secretary Pomoceno, as the Civil Defense Administrator,
06:57
also issued a statement when the volcano erupted,
06:59
especially yesterday when the eruption of Volcanic Canlaon erupted.
07:08
However, it remains on alert level 2.
07:15
However, we are not taking anything by chance.
07:18
We are not leaving things to chance.
07:20
We are in a worst-case scenario.
07:23
What we are saying is that there should not be anything in the permanent danger zone.
07:31
Also, the evacuation of our countrymen to a safe place.
07:38
Our reporting, our coordination with various agencies
07:44
and we are taking the cue from the OST, FEBOX,
07:51
for their expertise on what should be done.
07:54
Another thing we are keeping an eye on is,
07:57
since it is raining,
07:59
the possibility of mudflows that might complicate ordinary flooding.
08:08
We are also calling on those who have experience,
08:12
since it is smoky,
08:14
we can wear masks on our nose and mouth.
08:20
We can also wear goggles for our eyes.
08:26
Especially if, like yesterday, the eruption of Volcanic Canlaon was high.
08:34
Even if it is not necessary,
08:37
we should stay at home to be safe.
08:41
Especially since we are not exposing the particles of the volcano.
08:46
Alright, thank you very much Dr. Edgar Posada,
08:50
Spokesperson of the Office of Civil Defense.
08:52
Good evening, sir.
