Staff from Blackpool household waste centre issue a warning after blaze

00:00Hello, I'm Digital Reporter Matthew for the Blackpool Gazette.

00:04I'm bringing you an update on a fire at the recycling centre in Brisbane.

00:09The tip in Brisbane and Bristol Avenue caught fire causing thick clouds of black smoke to build over rooftops from 2pm.

00:15The fire started in a container at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

00:20Take a look at some of the footage from the scene.

00:30My name is Paul Preston, I'm the site manager at Bristol Avenue Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

00:51Yesterday we had a fire involving electrical equipment which thankfully was attended by Lancaster Fire and Rescue.

01:00We believe the fire started as a result of an inappropriately disposed of e-scooter or e-bike which unfortunately caught fire.

01:11As you can see we have quite an extensive mound of waste that has been damaged as a result of this fire.

01:20Thanks once again to Lancaster Fire and Rescue.

01:23However the message for me is please when you're attending the recycling centre or actually disposing of any waste including batteries,

01:32please remove those batteries whether they're lithium ion or alkali batteries so that they can be disposed of appropriately.

01:40Both lithium ion and alkaline batteries can be accepted at the Bristol Avenue Household Waste and Recycling Centre.
