Over 10 unregistered childcare centres under JKM surveillance in Melaka

The Melaka Social Welfare Department (JKM) is monitoring more than 10 unregistered childcare centres in the state under the Child Care Centre Act 1984.  State JKM director Halyjah Muhammad said these unregistered childcare centres have been identified, and enforcement actions are expected to be executed soon. 00:27But parents are still stubborn because of the proximity to their own homes.

00:34Halija said after leading a raid at a child care centre at Batu Berendam on Wednesday.

00:40She said the centre had been operating illegally for over two years.

00:44She also said some of the centre operators justified their illegal practices by citing

00:50steep demand from parents.

00:52Halija adds it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to seek child care centres that

00:58comply with legal requirements and are regulated by the Social Welfare Department.
