00:00The Department of Health is positive that the number of vaccinated or fully immunized children is increasing.

00:05They are still facing the rise of their immunization program, such as vaccines in schools.

00:11Dian Manalo is in the center of the news, live.

00:15Many places in the country were flooded because of the storm Christine and the storm Leona.

00:21And now, winter is coming.

00:24Many diseases have spread.

00:26That's why the Department of Health is positive that the number of vaccinated or fully immunized children is increasing.

00:32This is one of the reasons why the D.O.H. program on vaccination in schools

00:36is supporting the Department of Education, which started in 2015.

00:41Its goal is to provide protection to children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

00:47The vaccination started in October, and it will last until this month.

00:51The priority of the program is for students to go to public schools throughout the Philippines.

00:56We must take this opportunity, not just because it is cheap, but because it is safe and effective.

01:02Some of the vaccines given for Grade 1 and Grade 7 are vaccines against measles and rubella,

01:08and vaccines against tetanus and diphtheria,

01:11while the vaccine against human papilloma virus and cervical cancer is given to girls in the fourth grade.

01:18According to the Department of Education,

01:20more than 800 public schools in the National Capital Region are vaccinated in schools.

01:26Their target is to vaccinate more than 160,000 Grade 1 students,

01:30more than 80,000 girls in Grade 4 students,

01:33and more than 180,000 Grade 7 students.

01:36According to the Department of Education,

01:38as of September 30, 2024,

01:41only 42 percent of children under the age of one year old are fully immunized.

01:46This is still far from the 72 percent target.

01:49But the agency expects that this number will increase

01:53after their vigorous coordination with the DepEd and local governments.

01:58It is a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach.

02:02First of all, our Department of Health Central Office is the first to implement or draft our guidelines.

02:09Our various National Government Agencies are also included in this.

02:13The Department of Education is also the first to do so.

02:16The DOH was the first to issue guidelines under the DM No. 2024-0375

02:23that requires routine and catch-up immunization activities for all.

02:29The DOH will continue to implement their Bacuna Bayan Iwana as part of the eight-point agenda

02:35and the implementation of the 50 Years of the Expanded Program on Immunization or EPIA.
