00:36When Labour were looking for votes in July there was no mention in their manifesto

00:40about today's budget rise in employer national insurance contributions.

00:45First of all let's establish the numbers.

00:47This is how much national insurance your employer pays on top of your salary.

00:52Now this is how much they are going to have to contribute.

00:55With this employer's tax rise did Labour lie about taxing the working people?

01:00No I do not think that this increase represents a breaking the promise

01:05because the promise was not to increase taxes paid by working people

01:10and this tax is paid by employers.

01:13I think it's fair to say that it's compatible with the promise.
