00:23Other footage showed firefighters rescuing trapped drivers on flooded streets.

00:28Valencia's regional leader said some people remained isolated in areas that were, quote,

00:33absolutely impossible to reach.

00:36The region was put on red alert.

00:39Emergency services urged people to avoid any kind of road travel, while trains to Madrid

00:44and Barcelona were cancelled.

00:47In the worst-hit areas, schools were also closed.

00:50The death toll appears to be Europe's worst from flooding since 2021, when almost 200

00:56people died, mainly in Germany.

00:58Scientists say extreme weather events in the region are becoming more frequent due to climate
