00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the opening of the Logistics Distribution Center in Laguna today.

00:08According to the President, it will greatly help in improving the economy of the country and in creating more jobs.

00:18Kenneth Pacientes is in the center of the news.

00:21This is how President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the opening of the Merck Optimus Distribution Center in Laguna.

00:33The 10-hectare area was designed by the President to strengthen the logistics system in the country,

00:41which will greatly help in improving the economy, especially in the logistics sector.

00:46With the grand opening of the Merck Optimus Distribution Center, our logistics system will be a step closer to become a powerful force,

00:56bridging our islands, breathing life into our industries, our businesses, bringing together our people on a path towards sustained development.

01:04The Merck Optimus Distribution Center attests to the shared vision of Merck Philippines and Solid Group Incorporated,

01:13a vision for a more inclusive and sustainable growth.

01:17It will also pave the way for the establishment of stronger import and export activities, especially in the Calabarzon,

01:23which will contribute to strengthening the supply chain,

01:26which is dependent on an administration that can decongest Manila,

01:29and to broaden the opportunities in the province, especially in the construction of jobs.

01:34In the coming years, the Merck Optimus Distribution Center is expected to create employment for 1,000 people

01:43in its surrounding communities and indirect employment for another 1,000 individuals,

01:49from vendors and service providers to truckers and beyond.

01:52When a large plant such as this is put up in a community, the downstream employment that comes,

02:02both the full employment and partial employment, is usually three times the direct employment in the facility.

02:12So, it is a great boon to the local community.

02:15The President also praised the company's efforts to build the warehouse and distribution center

02:20with a focus on the environment, in line with the government's vision to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

02:28From utilizing solar power to reduce its grid consumption by 30 percent,

02:32to deploying electric vehicles for the last mile services,

02:37it is committed to earning a gold certification under the leadership in energy and environmental design.

02:45Environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of this administration's agenda,

02:49and it is heartening to see the private sector partners echoing this commitment.

02:55It is more critical as we face natural calamities such as the typhoons and storms

03:00that have intensified because of climate change.

03:03The MERSK Optimus Distribution Center has a 76,000-pallet storage capacity

03:09that will serve as a transport hub for Central Luzon.

03:11It also has a 75-dock for outbound and inbound operations.

03:15This is the largest warehouse and distribution hub of the company.

03:19Meanwhile, the President gave a directive to local governments

03:23to prepare for the possible effects of the León Tsunami,

03:26which is currently being experienced in Extreme Northern Luzon.

03:30Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to happen again.

03:33So let's prepare well.
