Apple officially launches Apple Intelligence

00:02Here's what we're watching on the street today.

00:04Investors are focused on earnings.

00:06Wall Street is anticipating solid earnings

00:09from the tech sector.

00:10Outside that group, however, the news flow on Tuesday was mixed.

00:14Global same-store sales at McDonald's

00:16were down for the quarter, but it beat on other numbers.

00:20Meanwhile, Ford gave a muted full-year forecast

00:24that overshadowed better-than-expected results.

00:27Turning to other business headlines,

00:30if you have a newer model iPhone, Mac, or iPad

00:33and things look a little different, they are.

00:35That's because Apple has begun to roll out

00:37artificial intelligence features.

00:39The new AI tools, which are dubbed Apple Intelligence,

00:43are available via software updates for the iPhone 16

00:46and 15 Pro and Pro Max.

00:49AI software upgrades are available for Macs and iPads

00:53as well.

00:54So what can Apple device users do now

00:56that they couldn't do before?

00:58For one, they can now record a call.

01:01AI will transcribe the conversation

01:03and save a summary of the call in the Notes app.

01:06In addition, writing will be easier.

01:09AI can proofread, edit, and summarize users' documents.

01:13Siri will be more streamlined to interact in a manner

01:16Apple describes as, quote, more natural and conversational.

01:20There are also AI tools to help better sort

01:22through saved photos and videos

01:24and to make editing that content easier.

01:27Apple is in the midst of the early days of an AI race.

01:31Its main competitors, Google and Microsoft,

01:33are also putting AI tools at consumers' fingertips.

01:36Apple needs to keep up in order to fortify sales

01:39of its most important device, the iPhone.

01:43There are concerns, however, that these new AI features

01:46may not be enough to convince enough consumers

01:49grappling with inflation and higher interest rates

01:52to upgrade to a newer, more expensive phone.
