00:00Georgia's president said she did not recognize the results of this weekend's parliamentary

00:06vote, which election officials say was won by the ruling Georgian party, aimed at moving

00:12it off a path towards Europe, and called for Georgians to rally in Tbilisi to protest the

00:18results.

00:21Many Georgians viewed Saturday's vote as a referendum on the opportunity to join the

00:26EU, as Brussels had suspended Georgia's EU membership process indefinitely because of

00:31a Russian-style foreign influence law passed in June.

00:37The election campaign was dominated by foreign policy and marked by a bitter fight for votes

00:42and allegations of a smear campaign.

00:48European electoral observers said the election took place in a divisive environment marked

00:53by intimidation and incidents of vote-buying, double-voting and physical violence.

01:03The leader of the Social Democratic Party announced that her party is leading in the

01:06polls for Lithuania's second and final round of parliamentary elections.

01:12Voters headed to the ballots as strict COVID-19 measures during the pandemic, political scandals

01:17and an influx of migrants from neighbouring Belarus hurt the popularity of the current

01:21Prime Minister's government.

01:25The vote in Lithuania, which borders Russia to the west and Belarus to the east, comes

01:29at a time when Russia's military campaign in Ukraine is fueling greater concerns about

01:34Moscow's intentions, particularly in the strategically important Baltic region.

01:40It will set the political tone for the next four years, but despite a possible shift to

01:44the left, analysts say there won't be a significant change to Lithuania's foreign policy.

01:51The Social Democrats are broadly supportive of continuing aid to Ukraine and keeping the

01:55defence spending above 3% of GDP.

02:03The centre-right GERB party of former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is the likely

02:09winner of Bulgaria's parliamentary elections, according to exit polls.

02:14Initial results are expected Monday, but it could take days before final official results

02:19are announced.

02:20If these results confirm the exit poll, Borisov will be handed a mandate to form his fourth

02:25cabinet.

02:26It appears, however, that it will be an uphill task for him to find allies to form a governing

02:30coalition in a fragmented parliament.

02:33Voter fatigue and disillusionment with politicians has created an environment where radical political

02:38voices, aided by widespread Russian disinformation, are successfully undermining public support

02:44for the democratic process and boosting the popularity of pro-Russian and far-right groups.

02:49There was no clear winner in the latest vote held in June, and the seven groups elected

02:53to the fragmented legislature were unable to put together a viable coalition.

03:05Ukraine's air defences intercepted a total of 41 out of the 80 Russian drones the Ukrainian

03:10military reported, 10 of which were shot down near Kiev.

03:15Local authorities said there were no casualties, nor did they report any damage to critical

03:19infrastructure.

03:22It follows the deadly attack on central Ukraine the night prior, and marks the second night

03:26in a row Russia attacks the capital.

03:30On social media platform X, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of perpetrating

03:36aggression onto Ukrainians on a daily basis.

03:39He said that this week alone, Russia launched over 1,100 aerial bombs, 560 drones and 20

03:47missiles.

03:48Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry say the country's defence unit shot down 51 Ukrainian

03:53drones overnight.

03:55The defence ministry did not specify exactly how many drones were fired, nor did they disclose

04:00the full extent of the damage inflicted.

04:09Egypt's president says his country proposed a two-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas,

04:15during which four hostages held in Gaza would be freed.

04:18Speaking in Cairo, the president also said the proposal includes the release of some

04:23Palestinian prisoners and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.

04:29Egypt has been a key mediator along with Qatar and the United States.

04:34This is the first time Egypt's president has publicly proposed such a plan.

04:38Meanwhile, an Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced people in the Shathi refugee camp

04:44of northern Gaza killed at least 11, according to local authorities.

04:51Israel has struck a number of schools turned shelters in Gaza during the one-year conflict,

04:56saying it precisely targets militants hiding out among civilians.

05:02These strikes often kill women and children.

05:09One person has been killed and at least 30 people have been injured after a truck slammed

05:14into a bus stop north of Tel Aviv.

05:17Rescue services said six people are also in a serious condition.

05:24Local media reported that many of those injured were elderly people disembarking from a bus.

05:31The attack occurred near the headquarters of Israel's Mossad spy agency, as well as

05:37a central highway junction.

05:43Police say the attacker was neutralised, but it was not clear whether the suspect was stopped

05:48or killed.

05:49They're suspecting a terror attack.

05:56Tensions have soared since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, with Israel regularly carrying

06:00out raids in the occupied West Bank and attacks in Israel increasing as well.

06:08Tens of thousands of people marched in various Italian cities, calling for peace in Gaza

06:15and Ukraine.

06:19Around 10,000 people marched through the centre of Rome, waving a giant peace flag in front

06:24of the Colosseum.

06:28Many amongst the protesters were very concerned about the high number of civilians killed

06:32in the wars, both in Gaza and Ukraine.

06:38Demonstrations were organised by various peace advocacy groups and opposition centre-left

06:43parties.

06:46They urged the Italian government and the international community to revise a peace

06:51conference under the leadership of the United Nations.

06:57The marches occurred amidst escalating violence in the Middle East as Israel launched overnight

07:02attacks against Iran on Saturday morning.

07:12Thousands in Lisbon took part in a demonstration against police violence after several nights

07:16of riots triggered by the death of a man shot and killed by police earlier this week.

07:23Demonstrators demanded justice for Odair Moniz, the Cape Verdean man shot by Portugal's police

07:28force.

07:31Demonstrators chanted the slogan Justice for Odair as they demonstrated.

07:38Several flags from the Vida Justice movement, which organised the protest, as well as Cape

07:42Verde, flooded the city.

07:45Meanwhile, the right-wing Portuguese party Chega called for a protest in defence of the

07:50police at the same time in Lisbon.

07:54That protest brought together around 300 people and lasted just over an hour and a half.

08:01In recent days, Portuguese police have reportedly recorded more than 100 incidents of public

08:06disturbances in Lisbon.

08:12Thousands of supporters of jailed far-right activist Tommy Robinson marched through London

08:17as anti-racism demonstrators mounted a nearby counter-protest.

08:21The so-called Unite the Kingdom march planned by Robinson and supposed to feature him as

08:26Speaker led to calls for his freedom after his arrest Friday on a warrant for contempt

08:31of court.

08:32The march was countered by thousands of people organised by the group Stand Up to Racism,

08:37who held signs saying Refugees Welcome and opposed Tommy Robinson.

08:41Robinson is the founder of the Nationalist and Anti-Islamist English Defence League and

08:46remains one of the most influential far-right figures in Britain.

08:50He's been blamed for stirring up protests that turned into a week of violent disorder

08:54across England and the north of Ireland after social media users falsely identified the

08:59suspect in a stabbing rampage that killed three young girls in the seaside community

09:04of Southport as an immigrant and a Muslim.

09:11Former Bolivian President Evo Morales claims he survived an assassination attempt after

09:17unidentified men opened fire on his car.

09:20He wasn't injured but the alleged attack has become the latest flashpoint in a power struggle

09:26between the ex-leader and his successor, current President Luis Arce.

09:31Morales has blamed President Arce's government for the outburst of violence but Arce's government

09:37pointed its finger at Morales, claiming he staged an attack on himself to boost his own

09:42political fortunes.

09:48Esther Horvath's photographs forming the centre of a new exhibition were taken at a research

09:52village said to be the epicentre of global warming.

09:57She stressed that climate change does not happen overnight.

10:05Since the 1990s more and more women have become involved in that work.

10:35Climate change is often associated with numbers and scientific reports.

10:50But through her photos Horvath wants to show the humans behind the scientific data.

11:05The research village was founded in 1963 and research is being conducted every day.

11:20Esther Horvath has photographed 25 Arctic exploration expeditions since 2015.

11:27Her work has been recognised with the World Press Photo first prize and the National Geographic

11:32Wayfinder award amongst others.

11:36The photo exhibition Night Stars of the Arctic can be seen at Campus Centre in Budapest from

11:41the 25th of October to the 31st of January.
