00:00We're ready to go in Mexico City. It's lights out and away we go.

00:05It is 760 meters down towards Turn 1 and it's Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz not going wheel-to-wheel

00:12because Verstappen has got slightly ahead. Lando Norris coming to join the party as is Charles Leclerc.

00:17Verstappen has got the lead and there goes the RB of Yuki Tsunoda as Carlos Sainz goes straight over

00:24on the grass and takes the lead but will he have to give that place back? Verstappen second Norris

00:29third. One of the RBs already out and it looked like Yuki Tsunoda to me as Verstappen is given

00:36that place back by Carlos Sainz. Lando Norris in third then comes Charles Leclerc. Oh Alex Albon

00:42he got hit at the first corner last weekend severely damaged his diffuser and I think he

00:47got collected by Yuki Tsunoda and he's out of this race too and it's dreadful luck for the man

00:54starting from ninth place and hoping for a points finish and we can have a look at what

00:57happened here Martin. Yeah I'm just looking in the background to see where we'll look at that first

01:04yeah so it was literally just contact in the middle of the pack. Let's just see this start again

01:12so Verstappen got a tremendous the second phase of his start on the front of the grid there so

01:18he's already taken the lead Norris decides to tuck in behind Verstappen rather than going around

01:23the outside and as they head down to the first corner Verstappen's got the inside line let's

01:29just face that and basically Sainz had to go off the track because Verstappen ran up to the edge

01:35of the track and we know that the stewards are more lenient with that kind of thing on the first

01:40corner particularly so Sainz giving the place back now and living for another day so the front runners

01:47and I think I think we saw probably why where Hamilton got past yeah right this is not this is

01:52not going to be pretty Alex Albon with the yellow on the engine cover Sunoda getting a really good

01:58slipstream didn't quite get ahead three times they touched nearly got ahead on the braking

02:04and Alex Albon clipped him I think the Sunoda just slightly moved over yeah to be honest when I see

02:11incidents like that it amazes me they don't happen more often so it really was it was just a squeeze

02:17it wasn't it it was the Alpine of Gasly squeezed Albon over he had nowhere to go

02:25and unfortunately for Yuki Sunoda I don't think he did anything wrong there Sunoda but as I say

02:29I watched that and wonder why it doesn't happen more often actually at first I thought Sunoda

02:33might have moved over on Alex Albon I don't think he did actually I think Alex Albon had to move over

02:38towards Yuki Sunoda because that's where he got squeezed by the Alpine yeah the Alpine came

02:42slightly left and sorry it's just the way you can well Sainz got the rear wing open this time

02:50he got within the second look at the pace he's got he's going for it he's going for it down the

02:55inside Carlos Sainz on Max Verstappen runs a little bit wide Verstappen tries to fight this

03:00and now he switches back let's go around the outside as Verstappen Sainz has got him coming

03:05off but a really good exit for Verstappen though out of turn three and towards the next braking

03:10zone he's still got DRS as Carlos Sainz and that's kept him in the DRS zone on the main

03:15straight by 75 meters this year made no difference to Carlos Sainz beautiful move goes a little bit

03:21deeper I think than he would have wanted to but he kept the car absolutely where he needed to

03:26what's wrong with Verstappen in that little sector what can I do with a battery what is

03:30this for stupid long he was harvesting battery power and I think that's when he thought I'm

03:36gonna have a go here goes Lando Norris this time trying around the outside and Max Verstappen

03:41covers him off and for the second week running Lando Norris has to go off the track now he's

03:46ahead of Max Verstappen what do McLaren do here safe option give that place back but do they feel

03:53once again that Max Verstappen just forced Lando off the road either way Verstappen is through and

03:59they're both off the track again now this is really getting their elbows out Sainz could be under

04:04pressure here in this battle for the lead it looked as if Norris was trying to let him through

04:10and he drove him off the racetrack I was ahead the whole way through the corner this guy is dangerous

04:16I just have to avoid a crash it's the same as last time yeah we're on it

04:23right it's been noted by race control there goes Lando Norris he is ahead yeah but Verstappen

04:29breaks later yeah and then he's ahead I completely agree I think uh let's see

04:35but this is the next bit I think particularly day was Lando trying to give that place back

04:40uh no he wasn't at that stage no he wasn't and Max just slid up the inside and took him off so

04:47there has to be a penalty there for Verstappen or hand the place back but what it's done is freed

04:52up the two Ferraris 10 second penalty I thought he was going to get it and there might be another

04:57one yet I thought he was going to get that uh uh which is why I felt they should have given the

05:04place back so he gets a 10 second for that and are they they're not looking at anything else

05:09at the moment and that I'm sorry Max that was outrageous so Max for info uh you've been given

05:15a 10 second penalty for forcing Lando off track at turn four so head down 10 it's quite impressive

05:23there was a lot of winning a lot between the two Mercedes drivers once again he's got DRS

05:29as George Russell Hamilton now forces him towards the outside at turn one Russell is

05:34clean through and goes a little bit deeper but hangs on to that fifth place neat move

05:40by George Russell here comes Sergio Perez then responding to that Lawson wants him to go down

05:45the inside Perez is trying to do that oh Lawson has to go almost off the track but he hangs this

05:51one out for a bit longer Perez is off the track and they are still going wheel to wheel and Lawson

05:57stays ahead and this is big news for this race and in the drivers championship Max Verstappen

06:04another 10 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage yeah well that was the

06:10big one wasn't it George Russell out of turn three Kevin Magnussen gets past Esteban Ocon up into 12th

06:17and George Russell gets past Liam Lawson and up into the top four and that's going to frustrate

06:25surely we could have done one two more laps more

06:28Piastri sliding around as he tries to get on the power he's under pressure once again Lawson's

06:34doing a brilliant job here as down the inside goes Piastri the only way to get out of any threat

06:38from Lewis Hamilton is for Piastri to make the move and it looks like he's done just that and

06:43out of the next right-hander Lewis Hamilton dives down the inside at turn six Liam Lawson loses two

06:50places in two corners very small range up copy and here comes Oscar Piastri now we know that

06:58McLaren's got some decent DRS Hülkenberg in the Haas is ahead of him Piastri is not going to wait

07:04for a second invitation to steam down the inside and he does so this time around as we look to the

07:10Nigel Mansell corner oh as Charles Leclerc goes off almost into the barriers Lando Norris goes past

07:16and up into second place and Leclerc really struggling with those rear tyres for grip

07:21was easy prey when Norris came across it let's have a look at it again

07:26hugging that outside line and whoa that could have been so so nasty hundred mile an hour

07:32incident for Charles Leclerc averted with a fantastic lightning reaction on the steering wheel

07:39yeah yeah that was um he was a tiny tiny bit wide but that's uh an early Halloween present there

07:48isn't it for Lando Norris thank you very much he'll be saying he didn't think about lifting

07:53the throttle did he Norris here we go again with Lewis Hamilton down this main straight gaining on

07:59George Russell you can see how much extra speed he's got Russell covers that inside line once again

08:05this time he can cover it but it will be to no avail Lewis Hamilton had 20 or so kilometers an

08:10hour of extra pace and he takes that fourth place fourth career win and his second in 2024 to add to

08:19the victory in Australia he's going to add victory here in Mexico City he's never been on the podium

08:25at this track before he's never stood on the top step in this city he's going to do that now

08:30Carlos Sainz wins the Mexico City Grand Prix Ferrari win for the second time in a week
