00:00It's a Monday and Tuesday, so I'll have to sit here and get down there.

00:05Guys, we'll do a couple of questions for the Mondays separately.

00:11Yeah, cheers. Sean, before we get to the scenes in the final,

00:13I just want to know what you made of the performance before then.

00:16I thought we weren't at it. I thought they were.

00:19I think they were a good outfit anyway.

00:21They were better than us on the night.

00:23Not by a long shot. We weren't in massive trouble.

00:26We weren't getting rings around us or anything like that.

00:29It changed the feel of the game.

00:31We never committed to either way of playing.

00:33If we were playing long, we never really got after it

00:35and chased the game and forced the game.

00:37If we were playing short, we never really played with any kind of endeavour

00:40to go forwards with a purpose.

00:42So I thought we were short where we have been.

00:45On the other hand, the balance of football is it lasts for 96 minutes

00:49on this occasion.

00:51The mentality that I've asked the players to continue growing

00:53is that relentlessness, and I thought that was on show.

00:56Changing players, changing the feel of the game,

00:59quite obviously just going right,

01:01we're playing forward onto our back line as many times as we can

01:03for the last 10 minutes by putting Keno up there,

01:05and it works.

01:06Sometimes that's what you've got to do to make sure

01:08you look after yourselves in the Premier League.

01:10It's something that I've needed to do many times before

01:12and I was pleased that it worked.

01:14Do you think there was any reason or anything you can put your finger on

01:16for that kind of...

01:18No, it's a funny thing.

01:20I've just been chatting to someone else about it.

01:22The hardest thing as a manager when it's a collective down day

01:25is, trust me, it's been a really positive training week.

01:28You can imagine after a really good performance

01:30and a very controlled performance away,

01:32a really positive training week.

01:34Everyone's ready and yet we come out just with that kind of...

01:38I always call it everyone waiting for someone else to do something.

01:40That kind of atmosphere when it's just

01:43everyone just waiting for one of their teammates

01:45or someone to score a goal or whatever.

01:47And, of course, we so nearly did.

01:49I think Dom's heel was offside for the goal.

01:51A great cross from Mikko and Dwight as a header,

01:54which on another day you're hoping he puts it in.

01:57So, don't get me wrong, that could have changed

01:59the whole feeling of everything,

02:01but we never really got to grips with the game

02:03and slightly better in the second half,

02:05but not a lot, I didn't think.

02:06And then the last ten minutes, ironically,

02:08to what I've just said,

02:10you could sense, you thought,

02:12hang on a minute, we're knocking on the door all of a sudden.

02:14And when we did score, I wasn't that surprised

02:17because I felt that the energy and the feeling of the game had changed,

02:20albeit for a short period.

02:22So, I was pleased in the end

02:24to keep the unbeaten run going and get a point.

02:26And Beto got that moment, you looked so emotional at the end,

02:28you must be really pleased for him.

02:30Yeah, I didn't see the end point,

02:32but, yeah, look, Brian Clough used to have a saying,

02:35sometimes you've got to get hurt to score a goal

02:37and I thought he was willing to.

02:38He's in the mix, he throws his header in,

02:40it's a good header, great play from Young,

02:42really controlled knock back across.

02:45And it just goes to show you,

02:47nothing you don't know about it.

02:49Of course, as teams in this division,

02:51your arsenals, your man-citizens,

02:53they can stick to what they do and they can find goals

02:55and they're relentless to the last breath in a different way.

02:59We've got to operate in different ways,

03:01that's the squad we've got, that's the task in front of us

03:03to make sure we secure ourselves in the Premier League

03:05season after season.

03:07And I'm pleased with that.

03:08You've got to adapt sometimes

03:09and I thought the group adapted.

03:11There was no lack of effort again,

03:13just a lack of detail in the performance,

03:15but when the detail mattered at the end,

03:17we go and score a goal

03:18and that's an important factor over a season.

03:20Do you know anything about McNeil's injury?

03:22Not yet, I'm not sure yet,

03:24but he obviously had to come off,

03:26the delay and people shouting at me,

03:28I'm going, I've got to see if he's going to carry on,

03:30because he was sort of on the edge,

03:32so hopefully it's nothing too serious.

03:36Sean, Beto spoke about how much it means to him

03:40and how hard work pays off.

03:42He must feel good as a manager,

03:44he has a player who's not playing,

03:46but gets on with it.

03:47He has been working hard,

03:49working hard in training,

03:50the staff have been working hard with him,

03:51so they deserve credit as well,

03:52doing extras and bits,

03:54showing him clips and various things,

03:56including myself.

03:57And his development curve has been a delayed one,

04:00he didn't come into the game professionally

04:02not so long ago in relative terms,

04:04and coming into the Premier League,

04:05I've said it all along,

04:06it's different, it's difficult,

04:07especially as a striker.

04:09And I think he continues to work hard

04:11and he's got his rewards tonight.

04:13The thing I keep saying to him,

04:15you don't have to be pure when you're a striker like you,

04:17but you have to be a handful

04:18and you have to be awkward

04:19and you have to grow in that.

04:20It's a real weapon that,

04:21and I thought he was when he came on tonight.

04:23You can find different ways of operating

04:25to affect the opposition,

04:26and he certainly did,

04:27and I thought Keno did as well

04:28when he went up there.

04:29Do you think that can now kick-start a room for him?

04:32Oh no, it's a moment in time,

04:35but it's nice to think that it reinforces

04:37the work he's been doing

04:38and he'll certainly add to his belief,

04:40that's for sure.

04:43Sean, what does Beto need to do

04:45to start games more regularly?

04:46Just continue learning

04:47and get to a point

04:48when we've got a bank of history for him,

04:50when he understands the Premier League.

04:52We've spoken to him a lot

04:53about the defensive side of things,

04:54he's still getting to grips with that,

04:56as is Dom actually.

04:57Working from the front,

04:58defending from the front,

04:59it's one of them sides of the game

05:01that is forever important now

05:02with the modern centre-forward.

05:04It's not just stand up there and try and score.

05:06The game's changed.

05:07Centre-forwards now have to defend

05:08and they have to defend cutely.

05:09I'm not on about big tackles

05:10or anything like that.

05:11Getting passing lanes,

05:12cutting off the pass,

05:13usually to a deep-line midfield player.

05:15They're important factors

05:16and he's got to continue

05:17to learn that side

05:18as well as, of course,

05:19scoring goals.

05:21You mentioned earlier

05:22the task this season

05:24is to ensure Everton

05:26predominantly, first and foremost,

05:27stay as a Premier League outfit.

05:29Was that outlined to you

05:30at the start of the season?

05:32It was outlined to me

05:33when I got the job.

05:34It changed radically.

05:36It was a lot worse

05:37than what I got told

05:38when I came in.

05:39I've shared that with you before.

05:40So, if you look since then,

05:42we've brought money in

05:43and spent less

05:44and we've reduced the wages significantly

05:47and we're developing players

05:48who are now worth

05:49probably a lot more

05:50than they were

05:51when I got in here.

05:52So, they're the things

05:53at the outside

05:54of what I have to do

05:55and that's not a problem to me.

05:56That's just the challenge

05:57but I've never lost sight

05:58as we discussed just recently.

05:59You've got to win games.

06:00That's my job.

06:01I'm the manager.

06:02No-one cares about the rest of it.

06:03I have to care about it

06:04because it's my job

06:05but no-one else cares.

06:06Evertoners just want to win a game

06:07and we're just beginning

06:09to show signs

06:10we can win games

06:11and if we're not going to win,

06:12we don't get beat

06:13and that's growing again

06:14but we're always a work in progress.

06:15That's quite obvious.
