I made some modifications to my skiff so I could camp on my 10' skiff and explore new places. For its maiden voyage I went camping on my boat and did a catfishing catch and cook.

00:11Well if I'm gonna do a camping catch-and-cook video on this boat I need some place to lay down and sleep

00:17We're gonna do something about that

01:30We should go explore a river we've never been on before that sound fun

02:00Well, this is my first time ever setting eyes on this river, mmm, that's shallow let's do a plan B

02:38But I just got my boat repaired from hitting a log like two weeks ago

02:42So I'm not sure if I want to go out and smash another hole in it

03:01Well, the river is definitely flooded, but this is a lot more doable. I feel like putting the boat in here wouldn't be a suicide mission

03:23It's pretty cool, huh? Look there's water in the forest. Look at this. This is absolutely gorgeous

03:28Look at all this flooded timber, but we're gonna go back up in here and explore a little bit. Try not to bust our prop and

03:38Well, I've never fished this river before so I really don't know what we're gonna catch I assume there's channel catfish in here

03:49I love you too, bud. Well, we've been here about 15 minutes and no bites. So we're gonna pull up move and try another spot

04:33Well, here we are second week of December and it's a little chilly out here, but we're not gonna let that stop us

04:38I'm gonna get this boat packed up and we're gonna give the camping catch and cook video another try

04:47All right, we're all packed up let's go camping

05:04Well

05:06It took a little bit longer to get here than I planned and we've only got about an hour and a half of sun

05:11Left so we're gonna try to go find ourselves a fishing spot before it gets dark and see what we can do

05:26It's really nice today, it's like 60 and sunny

05:29So my guess is the fish might be a bit shallow soaking up the Sun we'll see

05:38I've got about 15 miles now still not seeing much of anything and it's getting a little cold

05:44I might need to start thinking about finding a place for the night

05:55So I'm gonna camp for tonight a little bit of bank here so I can build a fire if I get too cold

05:59Or if I need to stretch my legs, but I'm gonna cut up some bait and check the rods out and see what happens

06:05You know, there was a few signals down here and we got a little bit of snags up close

06:10But I don't know looks as good as any place I've seen today. All right. Here's my bait

06:15I lost my cast net earlier this week. So

06:19When I went to the grocery store, I picked up a bunch of fish for bait got these white perch here

06:26I'm gonna cut up also has some shrimp in a bag their currents ripping pretty good here. So I'm gonna use my big rods

06:33Hook that through the nose. So it kind of sits in the current aerodynamically

06:46Well, I got three rods out

06:47I can only use the rods that have more than five ounces of lead on them because the currents ripping pretty good here

06:53So I've checked them out one two three and I've got the bait clickers on so if anything comes along and hits this

06:58I'm gonna hear it. But these are all really big hooks and really big baits

07:03So it's gonna be a sizable catfish if I get hooked up

07:11Put my coat on in this rod just got a massive hit

07:14I knew I was gonna get here late tonight, so I didn't want to fuss with cooking

07:18So I got a nice big bowl of Mavado food here who ground beef tofu and this weird red sauce

07:26You used to eat this in Japan all the time for dessert. I've got some of the boys Halloween candy

07:36It's still good still good just tastes like perch now

07:40Well, it's getting properly dark and really cold. So I think I better start pulling out my camping gear

07:45I brought the Therm-a-Rest Mundo King 3d XXL

07:49I own a lot of camping mats and this is hands-down

07:53The most comfortable though warmest the largest one. I got only seven o'clock and I am freezing my butt off. I'm so cold

08:01I've got to get in my sleeping bag

08:02so I've got my my bag busted out here and you can see how I've got it set up and

08:08I'm gonna sit and watch my fishing rods from the comfort of my zero-degree bag. Oh, I can't feel my toes

08:15But it feels so good to be in this sleeping bag. Oh my goodness

08:19I can see my fishing rods pretty easily from here too. So this ain't too bad. So check it out

08:25this river is apparently tidal when we pulled up to the spot the water level was up here and

08:32The water's been dropping down pretty aggressively. It's only 730. So I don't think I can go to bed yet if I wanted to

08:39But

08:40I'm gonna sit here and watch movies on my phone keep an eye on my rod tips and eat rice pudding and cookies

08:47I'm just just gonna relax a little bit. I gotta tell you though

08:50I really miss not having my boys with me here tonight, but they had school and frankly

08:56It's really cold that I'm a little worried about them sleeping on this boat and falling off. So so it's just me for right now

09:06Guys it's cold out here, but it is absolutely beautiful

09:10I'm sitting here on this perfectly still cloudless night staring at so many stars and

09:17There isn't a single bit of man-made light anywhere to be seen. It's just gorgeous

09:22My hung-up rods been getting some big old hits

09:29The lead is stuck and the fish has grabbed the bait

09:33Maybe he'll pop it loose

09:36my best bet

09:41Broke off. Oh dang it. We had a pretty nice catfish on there

09:48Hit that harder than I expected. All right, I got three rods baited up and back out and we'll see what happens

09:54There's an angry beaver over there. He keeps splashing at me. I don't like beavers

10:00I had to fight our 30-pound rabid beaver once on a date with my wife

10:05Beat it unconscious in front of a troop of Boy Scouts. Oh

10:09Good morning. Oh, I slept really well last night and it was so fun

10:14Sitting here looking up at the stars and I saw so many shooting stars probably 20 or 30 of them

10:20But the tide has gone out with a vengeance and our boat is sitting on mud right now

10:27So I am sitting here just building up the energy to actually get out of my sleeping bag and do something oh

10:39It's actually a lot warmer this morning than it was last night

10:57Nice little blue catfish, but he is so wrapped up

11:03When catfish get hooked and they can't pull anymore they like to spin and this one has just spun and spun and spun

11:12Well, I really want to eat a catfish today

11:15But this is enough to feed my entire family for like two days. So I am gonna send him back

11:21Plenty of little tiny ones, which I'm sure we'll get into

11:25I'll eat one of those

11:27Well because the tide has calmed down the currents calmed down a lot too

11:30So I can bomb it out there away from the snags a lot better

12:15We packed up we ate up now, let's reel up and get out of here. Let's go try another spot

12:20How beautiful is this? It's just gonna be an awesome day

12:27We got a long straight stretch of river with almost no wind and very little current and the bottom is very consistent

12:34So we're gonna try drifting which is a great technique when you're not quite sure what to do

12:39Just go and drop your rigs down to the bottom. Just kind of let them bounce along the bottom. Oh

12:47We got our first customer

13:05Nice healthy blue catfish. I bet we're gonna get a lot of these today

13:12This is a live image of what's going on underneath that rod. You see that's my lead and bait right there

13:18It just drifted along right off the bottom

13:21If anything comes up and investigates I'll know about it. So you look right there

13:25See see that fish? That's a fish right there. Oh, yeah

13:29That was just a little fish came up and grabbed it

13:31You can see it going all over the place and my rod tip was bouncing. Let's see if he comes back

13:36Well, I landed that one fish and I had a couple other good bites, but you know, I'm gonna try another drift

13:44Here another spot, let's give it a go

13:47Holy mackerel, look at this

13:54Oh that guy was trying to flip the boat

14:01I'm sitting there looking on my phone and all I can think of is fish

14:04I'm sitting there looking on my phone and all of a sudden the boat just starts leaning over like what the

14:11I think that's the biggest one of the day. Yeah, it feels like 10-12 pounds

14:18Let's go try another spot

14:24Well, you know, I'm really having a ball catching these big catfish

14:27But I'd really like to catch a little one to cook up and so I'm gonna try these shrimp

14:32Sometimes I tend to do better with little catfish when i'm using shrimp

14:41Yo, nice nice chunk of shrimp right there

15:04There we go, that's what we're looking for switching over to the shrimp did the trick look at that

15:10Nice pretty blue catfish. Well, I think I just got my lunch sorted out

15:23Oh, he liked that shrimp man, these blues are just healthy and chunky

15:28Well, that was a pretty good drift, but I am getting hungry. So I think it's time to make some lunch

15:40All right anchored up in a nice little spot to make lunch and of course we'll do some fishing while we're at it

15:49Whenever I catch fish I like to see what's in its stomach. And uh, so let me show you see that right there

15:58It's a clam blue catfish love to eat clams so do carp

16:10I'm getting ready to cook up my catfish and look what's coming up the river

16:14Holy mackerel that makes my floating fishing cabin look a little bit teeny doesn't it?

16:35And get this pan hot

16:38Once the butter turns brown lay those fillets in there

16:59Take this leftover rice from last night and let that soak up all the butter and seasonings and grease

17:11Blackened catfish and rice. There you go. Crispy blackened catfish with fried rice

17:23Oh another chunky blue catfish

17:29You know, this has been a really fun project and i've really enjoyed this camping trip

17:32But it is getting late and I better get going home because i've got a long drive
