00:00Tom Kelly tried to buy a coffee on his way to work this morning, but his card was declined.
00:07He then realised his account was overdrawn by more than $100.
00:12I realised that I've been charged twice for all of the transactions that I'd made yesterday.
00:19It's inhibited me getting lunch today for work.
00:23It's also inhibiting me being able to get home today from work.
00:27During his shift as a social worker, he spent almost two hours on the phone to Commonwealth Bank,
00:32only to be told they couldn't give him a time frame for when his money would be returned to his account.
00:39And I said, look mate, it's not just me, there are thousands of us out here and some of us
00:45are wondering how we're going to eat tonight.
00:47Mr Kelly is one of many CommBank customers affected by a glitch in their system today,
00:52causing duplicate transactions.
00:55I was at an appointment and it said my smart access had been overdrawn by $200 and I'm thinking, what?
01:03Many flooded social media to vent their frustrations.
01:07One said, I can't pay for my fuel and the police have been called.
01:11Another said $250 in groceries to feed my family, including desperately needed nappies, rejected at the checkout.
01:19In a statement, the bank apologised to customers and said the process to reverse these is underway
01:25and customers are now seeing the duplicate transactions disappear.
01:28They said the process should be completed this evening.
01:32CommBank wouldn't say how many customers had been affected.
