00:00I have promised you that before the next election, I will dive with you in the Yamuna, I will do that.
00:07The next election?
00:08Yes, the next election of 2025.
00:10The festive season has started across India as the winter approaches.
00:32However, with this, the not so merry scenes from the Delhi NCR are back again in spotlight.
00:38The Yamuna river in Delhi is once again covered with a thick layer of white, toxic froth sparking health concerns,
00:46especially as the festive season of Diwali and Chhat Puja approaches.
00:51Videos on social media showed large areas of froth resembling clouds which later dissipated.
00:58Officials have started spraying defoamers and the government is working to address the issue.
01:04Today, Team One India arrived at Kalindi Kunj front to check the current status of the Yamuna river and what we saw was shocking.
01:14If you imagine a dirty drain, even though it is a river, which is called the mother of all rivers in India,
01:19it would be wrong to compare it with the Yamuna.
01:22But you can never imagine what will happen to the Yamuna.
01:2640 years ago, the Yamuna was known for its cleanliness, cleanliness and pure water.
01:30Today, it is desperate for its pure, pure and pure form.
01:36It is trying to find its existence.
01:40There is politics, there are promises, there are all kinds of promises.
01:45There are big promises that we will clean the entire Yamuna, we will make it clean,
01:49we will bring water-drinkable things, we will create a water-drinkable situation.
01:52But this is not happening.
01:54The river's pollution levels are alarming with the foam containing dangerous levels of ammonia and phosphate,
02:01posing risks like respiratory and skin disease.
02:05This type of pollution typically arises from decaying plant matter and pollutant mixing with the water,
02:11but its presence during the monsoon is unexpected.
02:15Experts attribute this to the absence of usual flood spells that help wash pollutants downstream.
02:21Even Delhiites are now pissed of this annual happening and sadly,
02:25no firm action has been taken by the state and the centre.
02:36When a snake comes from Uttarakhand to UP, it comes.
02:39But what happens is that as soon as it comes to Delhi, the area of 22 km becomes the dirtiest.
02:44Governments blame each other that this is not our work, this is not our work.
02:48The state government gives people free electricity, water, everything,
02:52but tell me when will we get Yamuna from Sripurudusan in 10 years?
02:56The government makes a lot of promises.
02:58The Delhi Air Quality Index was recorded at 274,
03:02indicating a poor air quality,
03:04with certain areas like Anand Vihar and Bawana experiencing very poor levels.
03:09The weather forecast is predicting clear skies with chilly wind as the winter approaches.
03:14In response to the frothing issue,
03:16the Aam Aadmi Party has announced that the government engineers are now stationed
03:20across Okhla and the Agra canal barrages to maintain the situation.
03:24They will monitor the barrage gates' timing and provide regular updates to authorities
03:29with photos of Yamuna downstream at the Kalindi Kunj uploaded two hours for the continuous observation.
03:35Environmental experts are urging the government to take immediate action,
03:39particularly with the major festival like Jhat Puja approaching,
03:42when pollution in the river typically becomes more noticeable.
