00:00Growing, using and eating local fruits and vegetables in schools is something stakeholders
00:07around Wales want to see happen across the board where possible, but a recent finding
00:11from a Welsh-based food charity has found that number is far lower than hoped.
00:18Food Sense Wales has found that only 6% of vegetables eaten in school meals across Wales
00:23actually come from within Wales, despite efforts from the charity and the Welsh Government
00:27to increase the figure with their Welsh Veg in Schools project.
00:33The charity say they want that number to increase to at least 10% and that before the project
00:37started it was virtually zero. They say they also want to increase Welsh produce in other
00:42public settings alongside schools.
00:47A number of smaller local producers as well as larger Welsh producers are involved in
00:51the project which has funding until March 2025 with consideration for funding for the
00:56following year on the cards.
