00:00
Morning, welcome to your weekend weather update.
00:03
If you've not been outside yet, maybe in for a bit of a shock.
00:06
It looks lovely and sunny for many,
00:08
but it is on the chilly side.
00:10
Temperatures below average for the end of September.
00:12
But it is fine and bright for the vast majority
00:15
across England and Wales.
00:16
Steadily clouding over, though, across much of Scotland.
00:19
And there is some rain in the west.
00:20
Bit of showery rain getting to eastern Scotland,
00:22
but I suspect much of eastern Scotland
00:24
will brighten up through the day.
00:25
A few scattered showers for Northern Ireland,
00:27
mostly in the north.
00:28
Here, too, some sunny spirals coming through.
00:31
The odd shower may get into northwest England, maybe
00:33
north Wales.
00:34
But for most of England and Wales, it's dry and it's fine.
00:37
Certainly over much of the Midlands, East Anglia,
00:39
and the southeast, it'll stay fine and sunny.
00:42
So good news after the torrential rain here
00:46
and the flooding earlier in the week.
00:48
It is on the cold side, though.
00:49
Temperatures well down into single figures to start the day
00:52
and just about getting into the teens.
00:54
We might squeak a 15 across the southeast.
00:56
Generally speaking, they're 13 or 14 Celsius.
00:59
And temperatures are quite a few degrees
01:01
below the September average.
01:04
Going to turn pretty chilly quickly this evening, as well,
01:07
under the largely clear skies.
01:08
Still one or two showers filtering
01:10
into northwest England, western and northern Scotland.
01:13
In fact, quite a damp night across Orkney and parts
01:16
of Caithness and Sutherland.
01:17
But for many, it'll be a dry evening and dry nights.
01:21
And again, turn a little bit chilly,
01:23
with most places having fairly light winds.
01:25
Perhaps not quite as cold as last night,
01:27
but still in parts of eastern England
01:29
will be well down to three or four degrees
01:32
and lower in rural spots.
01:34
A milder night further south and west,
01:36
however, and that is because weather patterns are changing.
01:39
We're losing the northerly winds by tomorrow
01:41
and starting to get southerly winds.
01:43
Strengthening southerly winds.
01:46
Getting quite lively, in fact, across southwest England
01:49
and south and west Wales.
01:50
Along the coast, we could easily get gusts of 50 to 55 miles
01:54
an hour, maybe 60 miles an hour.
01:56
So we do have a Met Office yellow warning
01:58
in place for the winds here.
02:00
Could cause some disruption.
02:02
And it's also going to turn wet across southwest England,
02:05
most of Wales, parts of the Midlands.
02:07
By the end of the afternoon, northwest England,
02:09
northern Ireland are also seeing some outbreaks of rain.
02:12
For most of the day, though, eastern England and much
02:15
of Scotland will be dry and fine during tomorrow.
02:18
But after a sunny start, the cloud
02:20
will steadily increase and the breeze strengthening as well.
02:23
Temperatures are going to struggle as well.
02:25
Again, at chilly start, lifting to 13 or 14 by the afternoon.
02:29
Maybe 15 or 16 in the southwest.
02:31
But obviously, not feeling too clever here
02:33
with the wind and the rain.
02:35
And that rain will become more extensive
02:38
as we go through the day and into the evening.
02:40
Some further heavier bursts of rain likely.
02:42
And of course, any extra rain falling
02:44
where we've had the flooding this week
02:46
is likely to exacerbate the issue.
02:48
So that's not good news as that rain
02:50
sets in again over much of the Midlands
02:52
and spreads into northern England,
02:54
eventually into southern Scotland
02:55
during Sunday evening, staying pretty wet and windy
02:57
in the southwest.
02:58
So a wet and windy spell to come,
03:00
especially on Sunday night.
