00:00Welcome to your weather for the week ahead from the Met Office.
00:03The weather this week, perhaps not quite as severe as last week,
00:06but having said that, the ground is saturated.
00:09So any heavy rain falling, and there will be some of that,
00:12is likely to cause some further problems.
00:14And it's still going to be very, very blustery at times
00:18with some lively gusts of wind,
00:20all because, of course, of low pressure systems.
00:23Now Storm Dennis is exiting, but another low is following for Tuesday.
00:27Here comes Wednesday's wet and windy spell,
00:29which lingers into Thursday before another low follows on behind.
00:33High pressure trying to establish itself across parts of the south,
00:36but the main theme this week is that we will see
00:39further spells of wet and windy weather.
00:42Tuesday is a gusty, blustery day.
00:44There'll be some sunshine, but there will be showers.
00:47Bands of showers swinging in, in particular a lively band of showers
00:51working across England and Wales through Tuesday afternoon and evening.
00:55And all the while through Tuesday,
00:56the showers will be falling as snow over the higher ground
00:58across western Scotland.
01:00There's a warning in force here for Monday night for snow and ice.
01:04Temperature-wise, well, single figures generally.
01:06I'm feeling colder because of that gusty wind.
01:08Certainly it'll be colder as this band of heavy rain swings through.
01:12That's on this weather front.
01:13And then, well, there's the briefest of ridges of high pressure
01:17moving in for Tuesday night.
01:18So a fine start for some on Wednesday,
01:21but here is another deep area of low pressure.
01:24And these weather fronts will be bringing more rain.
01:26This wet weather will be heavy and persistent.
01:29And to a particular concern across parts of Wales,
01:31of course, very badly hit by the floods at the weekend.
01:34There are weather warnings in force for that wet weather coming in
01:37during Wednesday.
01:38But it's not just Wales.
01:39Sweeps across pretty much all parts of the country,
01:41maybe not getting to the far northeast until late on.
01:44The winds will be picking up as well.
01:46Temperatures 7, 8, 9, 10 degrees Celsius,
01:49but not feeling in any way mild with the wet and windy weather.
01:53And that low doesn't just move away either.
01:55It's this rippling, wiggling weather front that is a cause for concern
01:59because it might just spin up itself into another area of low pressure.
02:02We need to watch that.
02:04And it does mean that rain will be dragging its heels during Thursday,
02:08still around across parts of England and Wales.
02:10Some uncertainty about the exact position and the intensity.
02:13But again, that weather warning issued for Wednesday
02:16still in force into Thursday
02:18as that weather front only slowly pushes its way away.
02:21Behind it, it'll turn a bit brighter,
02:23but with more showers to come across western parts of Scotland.
02:26And then again, a very brief little ridge of high pressure.
02:30But the main theme towards the end of the week,
02:32another area of low pressure.
02:33The ice above squeezing together as well.
02:35It looks like this one on Friday will mostly be across northern Britain.
02:39And again, more rain falling onto very soggy ground
02:42across western Scotland, northern Ireland, parts of northwest England.
02:46Further south, it looks like a dry, fine start.
02:48And that weather front may start to bring some more rain
02:50back towards northwest England, north Wales later on.
02:53Further south, it looks like a dry day.
02:55Perhaps on Friday, but still breezy.
02:57Temperatures 10 to 12 degrees Celsius,
03:00getting very windy across northern Scotland
03:02as that low pressure system moves in.
03:04Now, it's all been very active, the weather of late,
03:07because of a very lively jet stream.
03:09If you take a look at the bigger picture through Friday and into the weekend,
03:13well, yet again, next weekend,
03:15we're going to see a very active jet stream streaming its way across the Atlantic,
03:20the potential for further areas of low pressure
03:22to spin up and drive their way across the UK into the weekend.
03:27Still a few days off, of course,
03:29but it does look as if the unsettled theme will continue into the weekend
03:33with further bounce of strong wind and also, at times,
03:36some further heavy rain to come.
