00:00When I was in school, I was taught that the brain is the master organ in the body, but

00:26what the new science is showing us is that the brain receives the instructions telling

00:31it what to do from our heart, the human heart, and this is a relatively new way for science

00:39to think about us and our relationship to our bodies.

00:43What we now know is that the quality of emotions that we create within our heart determine

00:50the signal that we send to the brain to release the chemistry into our bodies.

00:55Every moment of every day, there's a conversation that is happening between our heart and our

01:01brain.

01:02It's the inner environment, thoughts, feelings, emotions, and beliefs we know can be either

01:07healing or toxic.

01:09Humans commonly believe that the brain is the center of thoughts and controls the entire

01:14body.

01:15It is responsible for thinking and understanding.

01:18On the other hand, the heart is crucial for maintaining blood supply throughout the body.

01:24It is vital for every organ to function correctly and without it, the entire body of a human

01:29being could die.

01:30The heart is as important as the brain.

01:33But can the heart think or make decisions?

01:37Medical science doesn't have a clear explanation and is still researching this complex connection.

01:43However, the Quran contains verses suggesting that the human heart is involved in thinking.

01:50In this video, we will answer all your questions that are related to the human heart and that

01:55have already been answered in the light of the Holy Quran.

01:59Human heart makes good and bad decisions and it is one of the miracles of the Holy Quran

02:04which shook medical science.

02:07Who controls human thoughts, the heart or the brain?

02:11Allah Almighty says in Surah Al-Kahf, verse number 16

02:15وَلَقَدْ خَلَقَنَا الْإِنسَانَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِ نَفْسٌ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ

02:37Surely, we have created man and we know the promptings of his heart, and we are nearer

02:41to him than even his jugular vein, Quran 50.16.

02:46Although whispers are the thoughts which are the work of the brain, but Allah says that

02:51they are raised in the heart.

02:54Then Allah says that we are closer to man than the heart.

02:58The jugular vein here means the most important part of the human brain, which is directly

03:03connected to the brain, and is aware of all human thoughts and whispers.

03:08Still, Allah says that he knows the whispers and thoughts in the human heart, but how can

03:13this be possible?

03:15Allah Almighty further says in Surah Al-Mulk, verse number 13

03:19وَأَسِرُوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ جَهَرُوا بِهِ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

03:34Whether you speak in secrecy or aloud, it is all the same to Allah.

03:39He even knows the secrets that lie hidden in the hearts of people, Quran 67.13.

03:46These verses of the Quran clearly show that the even human heart can think and can understand.

03:53Until now, medical science believed that the only work of the human heart is to pump blood

03:58into the body, but it is not like that, but recent research suggests otherwise.

04:04The human heart is seen as an independent and complete organ.

04:08The human heart is not exactly like our brain, but it has its own intelligence, although

04:13the details and extent are not fully known yet.

04:16We are aware that it exists and even has its own memory.

04:21This is not only mentioned in the Quran but is also clearly present in the saying of Prophet

04:26Muhammad ﷺ.

04:29Nu'man ibn Bashir reported that Holy Prophet said in one of his hadiths,

04:34Beware, there is a piece of flesh in the body.

04:37If it becomes good, reformed, the whole body becomes good.

04:42But if it gets worse, the whole body gets worse, and that is the heart.

04:48Sahih al-Bukhari.

04:50The small brain within the human heart consists of 40,000 nerve cells, the same kind found

04:56in our brain, sending messages through the nervous system.

05:00This is such an amazing discovery that has changed the view of entire medical science.

05:05A Canadian medical doctor, Dr. J. Andrew Amore, has introduced a new term called Nervous Neurocardiology.

05:15It focuses on studying the small brain in the heart in detail and exploring it further.

05:21In his logical explanation, he mentions that when a person signals to slow down the heartbeat,

05:26the heart reacts based on his will, not necessarily as expected.

05:32Sometimes the heart's reaction is opposite to the signal, and unlike the brain, we can't

05:37fully control it as we wish.

05:39Amazingly, 1400 years ago, in the Holy Quran, Allah conveyed the same concept, stating that

05:46the mind's responsibility and position aren't just in the brain but also in the human heart.

05:52It is the place where the soul resides in the human body.

05:55Allah Almighty directs attention to the heart regarding thinking and understanding, leading

06:01some to mistakenly believe that the heart functions as the brain.

06:05However, spiritually, thinking and understanding are attributed to the heart, not physically.

06:12Physically, these functions belong to the brain.

06:15For instance, when Allah mentions that neglecting his remembrance turns the heart black and

06:20puts a seal on it, it symbolizes a spiritual state, emphasizing that while the heart works

06:26spiritually for thinking, understanding, and decision-making, the brain handles these

06:32functions physically.

06:34The heart is recognized as the center for negative thoughts and sins.

06:39As an example, when the Prophet Muhammad was a child, Angel Gabriel washed his heart with

06:46water and returned it, symbolizing spiritual purification.

06:51The command of Allah holds significance because the soul is strictly connected to the human

06:56heart.

06:57In the Quran, Allah explains that during sleep, he takes control of people's souls.

07:03And when death is imminent, the soul resides in the spiritual realm.

07:08Until the appointed time of death, the soul is returned to the body every morning.

07:13The departure of the human soul from the body is linked to the heart because the soul resides

07:18in the heart.

07:20The person is said to experience death when the soul leaves the heart.

07:25The small brain in the heart operates independently and can stay alive for a considerable time

07:31without signals from the brain, known as short-term or sometimes memory.

07:37This small brain not only stores information but also has a sense of it.

07:42In our journey through growing medical and spiritual knowledge, we see the Quran's

07:47teachings aligning with scientific discoveries about the human heart.

07:51It shows us how complex and important the heart is, not just physically but also spiritually.

07:58The human body's design, seen and unseen, physical and spiritual, is truly amazing.

08:04Both science and spirituality converge in understanding the heart's essence, urging

08:09us to think about the deep mysteries within us.

08:13If you seek peace for your mind and soul, Allah advises that true peace comes from remembering

08:20Him.

08:21May Allah grant us the understanding and ability to do good deeds.
