00:00Oh, I ordered us a mac and cheese. There's a new pan coming, so it might take a minute.

00:06Oh, good. Well, it gives us a moment to talk.

00:09About?

00:11I have been doing my research, and there's this great article on a website

00:17called telling your child about his or her birth via surrogacy,

00:21and they suggest you practice your story.

00:24That sounds promising.

00:26Yeah, so this is my story. It goes like this.

00:31Once upon a time, there was an egg that wanted to be a baby.

00:39Then there's a plot twist in the story.

00:42It's how Lulu didn't know that her egg was going to be an embryo.

00:47How about we just tell Charlotte that the baby starts out as a tiny thing called an embryo,

00:52and sometimes the embryo has to be made in a process called in vitro,

00:56and then the embryo is put inside a woman to carry.

01:00Claudette carried Charlotte, but Lulu made the embryo, so technically she's the biological mother.

01:05Oh, no, no. I mean, if we tell Charlotte that, she's going to be hopelessly confused.

01:10Of course, it's ridiculous that somebody that young would have to know something like that.

01:14I know, which is why I have a problem with Lulu opening her mouth.

01:19I agree with that, but what's done is done.

01:21I think we need to focus on reassuring Charlotte, letting her know that she's loved, that she's wanted,

01:26and that she's never going to have to leave us.

01:30Pretty amazing. You know that?

01:33Not everybody agrees with me.
