00:00This is my BVAC housing where my cage goes inside.
00:05This is actually the filter so the bees cut up in here.
00:09And we're off to the races.
00:13This is real smoke. I can breathe it.
00:16It's just burlap of harmless smoke.
00:19This helps big time.
00:22It's one of the most useful tools a beekeeper has.
00:25This smoke is really important to use on the bees
00:27because it confuses the pheromone, the smell that they release to attack me.
00:31It also makes them think there's a fire.
00:33So they're going to gorge themselves with honey and become lethargic.
00:36Kind of like you after Thanksgiving dinner.
00:42I'm smoking them up here.
00:45I've got a knock on the door.
00:57Put my hand in there. I'm going to feel where they're going.
00:59Maybe I can find some comb somewhere.
01:01I don't feel anything.
01:03It's kind of like exploratory surgery.
01:12And then I've got to open up the bottom and take all the debris out of the bottom.
01:15The smell is atrocious.
