‘Ring of Fire’ Annular Solar Eclipse Happening Today

This year has been a treat for skygazers with a total Solar Eclipse making its way over the US just this past spring. Now experts say we’re about to have our last eclipse of the year, the annular solar eclipse.

00:10Now experts say we're about to have our last eclipse of the year, the annular solar

00:15eclipse.

00:16The cosmic show will happen on October 2nd, but there's a really good chance you're

00:19not going to see it.

00:21Annular solar eclipses occur as you would expect, with the moon traveling in front of

00:24the sun.

00:25However, because of the earth, sun, and moon triangulation, the moon is too small to completely

00:29obfuscate the solar light.

00:31That's why it's often referred to as a ring of fire eclipse, as a clear outline of the

00:35sun is visible.

00:37So where can you see it from?

00:38Well, this one is occurring over the South Pacific, only moving over land in the areas

00:42of Easter Island, Chile, and Argentina.

00:45That will occur between 12.50pm and 4.39pm Eastern Time.

00:49But don't worry if you're not one of the few who will get to see this one.

00:52NASA says the next partial solar eclipse will occur soonish, in March 2025.
