00:16The largest and oldest national park
00:18in the Republic of Croatia is the Plitvice Lakes.
00:26This region has traditionally drawn
00:28tourists because of its extraordinary
00:30natural splendor.
00:36As a result, on April 8, 1949,
00:38it was designated as the
00:40Republic of Croatia's
00:42first national park.
00:48When Plitvice Lakes was added
00:50to the UNESCO World Heritage List
00:52on October 26, 1979,
00:54it was recognized
00:56for its remarkable universal
00:58value in the process of
01:00tufa creation, which creates
01:02tufa barriers and lakes as a result.
01:20With a few smaller parts covered by grasses,
01:22the park is mostly covered
01:24in forest vegetation.
01:26The lakes, which make up
01:28the majority of the park's most
01:30appealing features, occupy
01:32less than 1% of its overall area.
01:40The lake system consists of 16
01:42recognized lakes as well as
01:44a number of smaller, unidentified
01:46ones that flow into one another.
01:48The lake system has been
01:50separated into the upper
01:52and lower lakes as a result
01:54of the geological substrate
01:56and distinctive hydrogeological
01:58characteristics.

02:02Siginovac, Okružac,
02:04Butinovac, Velikojezero,
02:06Malojezero, Vr,
02:08Gjelovac, Milinojezero,
02:10Vredeskojezero,
02:12Bržti, and Kožac
02:14are the 12 lakes that
02:16make up the upper lakes.
02:22These lakes are larger,
02:24have more indented and gentler
02:26shorelines than the lower lakes,
02:28and were formed on impermeable
02:30dolomite rock.
02:34The lakes Milinovac,
02:36Gavanovac, Kalurovac,
02:38and Novakovojebrod make up
02:40the lower lakes, which were produced
02:42in permeable limestone substrate
02:44and carved into a deep canyon
02:46with high cliffs.
02:50The spectacular Sistevci
02:52waterfalls, which are the
02:54culmination of the lakes,
02:56have the Korana river rising
02:58beneath their base.
03:00The Plitvice Lakes
03:02National Park provides
03:04visitors with four hiking trails
03:06and seven various ways
03:08to explore the lake system.
03:12All seasons can be spent
03:14at the park.
03:30All visitors are expected
03:32to adhere to the guidelines
03:34provided on the information panels,
03:36stay on the designated trails,
03:38and not harm the environment
03:40in any way by leaving behind
03:42trash or other signs of their visit.
