00:00Northwest of the Blythe Intaglios is the sparsely settled desert community of Landers, California.
00:11This is the location of a strange domed structure called the Integratron.
00:16The story behind its construction is as strange as the building itself.
00:22To tell that story we must first visit a nearby desert monolith called Giant Rock, purported
00:29to be the world's largest freestanding boulder.
00:33Now abandoned, Giant Rock was once the unique home of this man, Dr. George Van Tassel.
00:41A former test pilot for Howard Hughes and Douglas Aircraft, George settled here in 1950.
00:49Beneath the rock, George enlarged and improved a former desert rat subterranean dwelling,
00:55making an office and living quarters out of it.
01:00He expanded on the length of the nearby dry lake, and created a runway for Giant Rock
01:06Airport, a unique flyaway destination for private pilots.
01:12Then, in 1953, something happened that changed George Van Tassel's life forever.
01:21According to his own account, he was awakened from a deep sleep by strange beings, aliens
01:28from another planet.
01:30Humanoid in appearance, the visitors spoke English and invited George to visit their
01:36spacecraft, which they had landed at the end of Giant Rock's runway.
01:42He then claimed he boarded the spacecraft and had the ride of his life.
01:47The aliens revealed unearthly secrets to him, and led to the construction of the Integratron.
01:57The building was to be an energy machine.
02:00As George explained in his 1960s interview, the Integratron would be able to do amazing
02:07things to benefit mankind.
02:09Well, everything has a beginning, you know, buddy.
02:12TV had its beginning, and the missile business and everything else.
02:15And this is a beginning into what we hope will be a mass rejuvenation of people.
02:22For two decades, George worked on his energy machine, spending thousands upon thousands
02:28of dollars on its all wood construction.
02:32Fortunately, he was never able to avail himself of the machine's rejuvenation capabilities,
02:39passing away before its completion.
02:43Today, the Integratron is owned by Emil Canning, who carries on the amazing story.
02:50Very few people have actually really been in here, because he kept people out while
02:54he was building it.
02:55So, out of that 20 years, maybe only the last couple of years, people were able to go through
02:59it.
03:00So, out of the thousands of people, very few have seen it.
03:02So, I feel it's part of my responsibility to make it available for people to see it
03:06and experience it.
03:07It's not only for its historical properties, but also for the energy that's in this building.
03:14When you go outside and you look at the outside of the building, you'll see these spokes
03:17that are coming out.
03:19Those spokes were supposed to be powered by an air compressor, and that would lift them
03:25up and they would actually spin around the building, the same way in your automobile
03:30you have a fan belt and that spins your alternator and your alternator generates power.
03:34When the outside of this building would spin, it would generate power.
03:37When it would generate power, then it would be animated in the field above us, and then
03:42it would come down this column, where I'm now sitting, and send out a wave of energy.
03:46And he said that if you walked through here or you sat where I'm sitting, you would experience
03:52re-energizing.
03:53And his vision was that he would take 10,000 people a day, they'd be lined up, they'd come
03:59in that door, they'd walk here, they'd sit here, they'd stand here, they'd get rejuvenated,
04:04and they'd walk out the other door.
04:06He said he could take 10 or 15 years of aging off of people.
04:11He didn't leave any written plans or written instructions.
04:14I never personally met the man, so all I have is the facility that he built, and what people
04:20have told me about him, and what people have told me that he was planning to do.
04:24So a lot of what I have to go on here is my best intuition, my best guess.
04:29Dr. George Van Tassel, more mysterious dead than alive, did he really have encounters
04:35with aliens from another planet?
04:37Were the plans for the Integratron really channeled to him from space beings?
04:44Will Emil Canning be able to ultimately unravel the riddle of the giant energy machine's design
04:50and operation?
04:51Only time will tell.
04:52Till then, the Integratron will remain a perplexing desert enigma.
