ABOUT - press release of the concert in 2008:
He is one of the most popular Brazilian artists ever, not just for playing covers of other artists' songs, but also for a fashionable mixture of jazz, bossa nova rhythms and soft pop melodies with his group Brasil '66. The pianist-singer of bossa nova Sergio Mendes is back in the picture thanks to rapper Will.i.am of the urban pop collective the Black Eyed Peas. The rapper restyled Mendes' bossa and samba repertoire for Timeless, a CD that contained cheerful contributions from soul and hip-hop stars like Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder and John Legend. This is continued on its successor Encanto (released in June this year). The album includes catchy Brazilian melodies, including new versions of Antonio Carlos Jobim's songs, as well as international jazz influences. Again Mendes worked with well-known singers: Natalie Cole, Jovanotti, Juanes and Ledisi.
