Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele made the biggest box office film in Nigerian cinema history in 2023. She shares tips on her success and why she believes in the cinema-going culture.

00:22It takes churning out contents that are relatable.

00:25It takes entertaining your fans out there, giving them what they want.

00:30And I churn out contents that people from the three tiers of life,

00:38like the high class, the middle class, and the low class can relate to.

00:42So that has really helped.

00:44I must say the cinema culture, it's very, very important for me

00:58because there's this unity, this togetherness,

01:01watching a film together in a big space on a big screen,

01:05taking your loved ones and families out there.

01:08And also, having the cinemas will also support citizens, locals in your country,

01:15get them job opportunities.

01:26The economy is affecting everyone.

01:28It's affecting everything that's gone up, inflation everywhere.

01:32With a budget that you could use, maybe like $700,000 or a million dollars,

01:40you have to go $1.5 million, almost $2 million to produce.

01:44What we can do as a citizen is also to lend a voice for better governments.
