00:00Have you ever wondered why some goalkeepers just seem to have that extra edge?
00:04It's probably because they ditch the bad goalkeeper habits that hold the rest of us back.
00:10In this video, I'll reveal those bad goalkeeper habits you might not even know you have.
00:14And the best part, you don't need a complete makeover.
00:18With just a few simple changes, you'll be saving more shots and surprising your teammates in no time.
00:24So you think you got room to improve? Let's find out.
00:27And let's kick things off with a bad habit most beginner goalkeepers do without even realizing it.
00:34So you found your perfect position in goal, the striker shoots, you see the ball, you dive,
00:39but instead of pushing the ball away from the goal, you push it into the goal.
00:43See the problem here? That's right, you're diving backwards.
00:48And diving backwards isn't doing you any favors,
00:51because instead of extending your reach and covering more of the goal,
00:55you're actually covering less.
00:57You wouldn't reach for something on a shelf while stepping away from it, would you?
01:01Of course not. And it's the same when you dive backwards.
01:05Plus, when you land awkwardly on your hips,
01:07you're setting yourself up for injuries that are completely avoidable.
01:12And while I know that diving forward isn't always possible, but when it is,
01:16always aim to dive aggressively towards the ball by taking a solid forward power step.
01:22And it might feel strange at first, but with practice, you'll soon get the hang of it.
01:26And hey, if you're serious about fixing your diving and becoming the best goalkeeper you can be,
01:31then check out the link in the description.
01:33But for now, let's get back to breaking those bad habits.
01:36And here's one that might be costing you big time if you're not careful.
01:40Ever been so sure of where the striker will shoot, only to dive way too early and get caught out?
01:47And yeah, we've all been there, but it's a habit we need to change.
01:51We are goalkeepers, not gamblers.
01:54We can't just pick a side and hope for the best,
01:56because when you dive or even just lean to one side too early,
02:00you're making the striker's job way easier.
02:04Now, I'm not saying that you should never dive early.
02:06Of course, there will be times when one side of the goal is gaping
02:10and the striker only really has one place to shoot.
02:12But if you're always guessing and turning every situation into a gamble,
02:17you'll end up conceding way too many easy goals.
02:20So instead, focus on positioning yourself correctly,
02:23keeping your balance and trusting your reactions.
02:26This way, you're in charge of the situation and not the striker.
02:30Okay, with gambling out of the way,
02:33this next bad habit is something we've all been guilty of at some point.
02:37Ever found yourself just going through the motions during training,
02:41not really giving it your all,
02:43or even taking an injury to skip those dreaded running drills?
02:47Maybe you think you're saving energy for the big games,
02:50or perhaps you're just feeling lazy.
02:52But if you think that you can just magically turn it on when it matters,
02:57I hate to break it to you, but that's just not how it works.
03:01The reality is, how you train is how you play.
03:04And if you're not giving your best in training,
03:06you won't in games either.
03:08Training is where you create your good habits,
03:11refine your technique and push your limits.
03:14So the next time you're practicing,
03:15get into the habit of giving it your all,
03:18be prepared, show up ready to improve,
03:20and push yourself like you're aiming to be the best every practice.
03:24With this attitude, you'll reach your goals and dreams much faster,
03:27because champions are also made in training, not just matches.
03:32With laziness and training out of the way,
03:35let's break another bad habit that can really affect your performance,
03:38and even cost you money.
03:40And look, as a goalkeeper, your gloves are your best friend,
03:44but why do you keep spitting on them?
03:47Sure, spitting on your gloves for a better grip might help for a few minutes,
03:50but in the long run, it's actually causing more damage than you might think.
03:54Think of it like drinking sugary energy drinks to get through a game.
03:58It might give you a boost, but you'll crash and burn out soon after.
04:02And what's even worse is the smell.
04:05No one, and I mean absolutely no one, wants to deal with that.
04:10So instead of spitting on your gloves,
04:12just pour or spray water on them.
04:14This will keep the grip strong, and they'll last much longer.
04:18But it's not just your spit that's ruining your gloves.
04:21How you use your gloves matters too,
04:23and getting up after diving using your palms is another glove killer.
04:27Because your gloves are not made for push-ups,
04:30and to make them last longer, try getting up with your fists instead.
04:34It might feel awkward at first, but trust me,
04:37your gloves and your wallet will thank you.
04:40And speaking of getting the most out of your gear,
04:42if you want to check out these bad boys, I've left a link in the description.
04:46They're already incredible value for money,
04:48but if you're looking to get an even better deal,
04:51I've left a small discount code in the description.
04:53Go check them out.
04:54Now, let's move on to our last bad habit of the day,
04:58and honestly, this one is the most important one.
05:02And I remember when I was a young goalkeeper,
05:04I just jumped straight into the goal, ready to show off my skills.
05:08Then one evening, the night before a big game,
05:11I did what I always did, but within the first 10 minutes,
05:14I had pulled a muscle and was cyclined for almost six weeks.
05:18I missed the most important game of the season,
05:21and do you know why this happened?
05:23I wasn't warming up properly.
05:26And skipping your warm-up might seem like it saves time,
05:29but it's actually a shortcut to injury.
05:32Warming up prepares your muscles,
05:34increases your flexibility, and gets your blood pumping.
05:37Without it, you're asking for trouble,
05:39like pulled muscles or other injuries that could have been avoided.
05:44It's kind of like trying to use a smartphone without charging it first.
05:48It's simply not possible.
05:49And when you're done training, don't just hit the showers.
05:53Cool down, stretch, and give your body the recovery time it really needs.
05:58Because at the end of the day,
06:00a well-prepared keeper is a better keeper.
06:04It's about being consistent, reliable, and available for your team.
06:08And you simply can't do that if you're constantly nursing injuries.
06:12So make warming up and cooling down into a habit.
06:16You'll be amazed how much better you feel,
06:19and how much longer you can play.
06:21And now that we've covered these bad habits,
06:23I really want to hear from you.
06:25Which one do you struggle the most with?
06:27Is it any of these, or is it maybe something else?
