00:00Imagine losing your beloved pet in the vast wilderness of Yellowstone National Park.
00:07One family's camping trip turned into a heartbreaking search.
00:13But this story doesn't end there. Meet Rainbow, the cat who defied the odds and traveled over 900 miles to return home.
00:25Rainbow, an adventurous domestic cat, was taken on his first camping trip by his owners, Benny and Suzanne Anguiano, in early June.
00:35Along with his twin sister, Rainbow visited Yellowstone's scenic fishing bridge RV park.
00:42For the Anguianos, this trip was a perfect opportunity to connect with nature and bond with their beloved pets.
00:50But soon, this tranquil vacation took a dramatic turn.
00:56During a casual afternoon in the park, Rainbow was startled by something unknown.
01:04In an instant, he darted into the dense forest, disappearing into the wilderness.
01:12For four long days, Benny and Suzanne searched desperately.
01:20They scoured the nearby woods, calling out his name, hoping he would return.
01:26But no sign of Rainbow.
01:35With heavy hearts, the Anguianos had no choice but to return to their home in Salinas, California.
01:43The drive back was filled with silence and sadness.
01:48But despite their sorrow, Suzanne held on to a glimmer of hope.
01:53She recalled seeing a double rainbow during their drive back and took it as a sign that Rainbow would somehow be okay.
02:02Then, in August, two months after their trip, they received an unexpected phone call.
02:10Rainbow had been found, nearly 900 miles away in Roseville, California.
02:18The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, SBCA,
02:23had scanned Rainbow's microchip and traced him back to the Anguianos.
02:29Against all odds, he had survived and found his way to safety.
02:36When Rainbow was finally brought in, he had lost nearly 40% of his body weight.
02:44His paws were beat up, and his protein levels were dangerously low.
02:51The cat had clearly been through an ordeal.
02:55Yet his survival was nothing short of miraculous. His family rushed to Roseville to bring him home.
03:03How Rainbow made this incredible journey remains a mystery.
03:09Did he hitch a ride, or did he walk through forests and towns?
03:15We may never know the full story, but the Anguianos are just grateful to have their beloved pet back home.
03:23They hope that others who may have seen Rainbow during his travels can help fill in the blanks.
03:30Rainbow has now been fitted with a GPS tracker to ensure that if another misadventure occurs, his family can find him quickly.
03:41The Anguianos plan to practice camping at home, in their driveway, to get him more comfortable with the experience.
03:48Though it's been a rough journey, Rainbow is now safe and ready for future adventures. This time with a bit more caution.
