Blackpool Tower Dungeon has a new show - the Bathtub Bride - a shocking, historic case which occurred in the resort

00:00Hello it's Richard Hunter at the Blackpool Gazette I'm with Jamie Humphrey

00:04the performance supervisor at the Blackpool Tower Dungeon and they've got

00:08a new exhibiting a new show in fact opening next week which is particularly

00:13pertinent to Blackpool and is all about a serial killer. Jamie what's the new

00:17show all about and what is it? So for Halloween this year we are going to be

00:22discovering the story it's quite local to us so it's based on Regent Street

00:26obviously in Blackpool just by the Regent Cinema there used to be a B&B

00:30there back in the day and basically our Halloween story you'll be taken into the

00:36B&B you will meet our fabulous character Mary Wade who is a medium and spiritual

00:42guide and basically you're going to join her on a journey to try and like pass

00:46over Alice Burnham who is one of our like serial killers victims and so the

00:53idea is that we're going to try and help her pass over to the light but

00:57things go slightly wrong and there's a few twists and turns as we go along but

01:01it's really pertinent to us here at Blackpool because it's the first time

01:05we've done a show that's like local to Blackpool itself a lot of our shows are

01:09just based on like kind of Lancaster and other areas whereas this is based in

01:13Blackpool so it's a really good opportunity to kind of home in on our

01:17own historical like facts and figures so we will be meeting George James Smith

01:22who is a serial killer that was called the Bathtub Bride Killer and basically

01:27he used to marry women take out insurance policies and drown them in

01:31baths and Alice is quite famous here because they used forensics for the

01:36first time to kind of catch him out so the bathtub was taken in they use an

01:41example they actually got a woman to kind of be pulled under the water so

01:45they could see what kind of effect and she actually passed out during that in

01:48the court and stuff and yeah he got trialed and found guilty and was hung so

01:54we're setting this story five years later and we're trying to kind of get

01:58rid of all that bad energy in the guest house so yeah hopefully it will be

02:02spooky fun and just to remind people when does this show begin so the show

02:07starts on the 28th of September that's when our Halloween celebration starts

02:12the 20th of September so we are the home of Halloween so some of our like regular

02:16shows get like little like new formations like Halloween versions and

02:21we have pumpkins everywhere we've got like a hundred and fifty pumpkins

02:24arriving on the 27th to decorate the place so yeah everything starts on the

02:2928th and that goes through to the 3rd of November excellent
