01:02Ah-ha-ha!
01:03Hi, Bob.
01:04Hiya, Randy.
01:07This gentleman, by the way, our champion, has won so far $5,300,
01:13which is not so bad at all.
01:15Not too bad.
01:16Not too bad.
01:17Didn't have fun, though, huh?
01:18Super. Having a great time.
01:19How many times have you played the Big Money?
01:21Just one.
01:22Just one time?
01:23Whoo!
01:24I was here, wasn't I?
01:25I was here.
01:26I forget.
01:27I'm old, folks.
01:28Tell us about Randy.
01:29I'm Randy Gibson.
01:30I'm in personnel management,
01:31and my favorite pastime's being active
01:34in my son's Boy Scout troop.
01:36That's your favorite pastime?
01:37Well, the Scouts of today.
01:39Listen, modern guys, modern...
01:42Oh, be prepared.
01:44Oh, I am, yes.
01:45I better stop.
01:46Yes, thank you very much.
01:47Nice to have you back.
01:48Hi, Martha.
01:49Hi.
01:50How are you?
01:51Fine.
01:52I'm Martha Duncan, and I'm at a loose ends now.
01:54I'm 79 years old.
01:55And I have to make a decision,
01:56whether I want to go around the world
01:58or start a career, finish my second book,
02:00or get married.
02:01Oh.
02:02Oh.
02:03Oh.
02:04Oh.
02:05Oh.
02:06Oh.
02:07Let's see, Martha.
02:09Is that confusing?
02:10You go around the world.
02:11When that's over, it's just over.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Uh, start a career.
02:15What would you start?
02:16Well, I think I'd either be a marriage counselor
02:19or a sex therapist.
02:20I was married for 58 years.
02:21I got all the answers.
02:23What do you think?
02:24Or get married.
02:25Or get married, right?
02:26That's forever.
02:27I think you ought to be a sex therapist.
02:29Yeah.
02:30Maybe.
02:31I'll decide.
02:32If you get an accent, you're the right height.
02:34If you had an accent, you see.
02:35Well, I can get an accent.
02:36You'd be just fine.
02:37You ready to play this game?
02:38Sure.
02:39Okay, we've dealt out the cards.
02:40We're ready to start game number one now.
02:42First game.
02:43If you win two games, you're the champion.
02:45You go on to play for the big money.
02:47So this is the first question in game number one.
02:49Good luck to the two of you, Randy and Martha.
02:51And our first question involves 10 single ladies
02:54who are in our audience today.
02:56So ladies, welcome to our show.
02:58All right.
03:04Now, Randy, before the show, we asked these 10 single women,
03:08since you turned 18, have you always had a boyfriend?
03:13How many of these 10 women have always had a boyfriend?
03:17Those are 10 good-looking ladies.
03:2110 good-looking ladies.
03:22Well, you got that right, son.
03:23I don't think they've ever been without a boyfriend, ever.
03:26Since they've been 18.
03:2718, yeah.
03:29Gosh, high number, seven.
03:31What did you say, sir?
03:32Seven of them have...
03:33What did you say before that?
03:35Gosh?
03:37Did you say gosh in my show?
03:38I might have said, I'm sorry.
03:40Try not to talk dirty, will you?
03:41I got crazy.
03:42Okay.
03:43The excitement.
03:44You say seven out of the 10.
03:45All right, Martha will be higher or lower than that.
03:47Well, I don't think any of them have been
03:49without a boyfriend very long.
03:50Maybe...
03:51This is always, Martha.
03:52How many of these 10 women have always had a boyfriend?
03:54He said seven.
03:55Well, I think it's a little bit higher than that.
03:56You think it's higher than that?
03:57Whoo!
03:58Well, the actual number of these women
04:00who have always had a boyfriend is...
04:02One.
04:03Just one have always had a boyfriend.
04:06That means it's not higher, it's lower,
04:08and Randy has control of the cards.
04:12Where's Lisa?
04:13Oh.
04:14Lisa, you've always had a boyfriend?
04:15Since I was 18.
04:16Now, Lisa, what bothers me is,
04:17let's say a guy breaks up with you on Friday night.
04:20Are you telling me that they lapped over,
04:23that you sometimes had two boyfriends?
04:25Well, it was two boyfriends in that time period.
04:28Congratulations, Lisa.
04:30Thank you, ladies, very much for being with us.
04:32All right.
04:33Whoo!
04:34The lady gets around.
04:35Yeah.
04:36Randy, there's your first card.
04:38There's a seven.
04:39Play or change?
04:40Oh, boy.
04:41May I change that card?
04:42Oh, boy, you sure can.
04:43Gosh.
04:44Seven becomes seven.
04:45Seven becomes a queen.
04:47Let's go lower, Bob.
04:48Lower than the queen, there's a four.
04:50Let's go higher, Bob.
04:51Higher than the four, there's a king.
04:53Lower.
04:54Going lower than the king, eight is yours.
04:57I'm gonna freeze there, Bob.
04:58Yeah, I don't blame you.
05:00Martha wanted you to freeze, too.
05:02You're one card away from winning the first game.
05:06Okay, Martha, time to catch up, dear.
05:08Sure.
05:09Okay, you ready?
05:10Give me an easy one.
05:11Oh, this is an easy question, yes.
05:14We surveyed 100 men.
05:16See, I knew you'd like this.
05:18And we asked them, if you were going bald,
05:21would you wear a toupee?
05:23How many men said they would wear a toupee?
05:26Well, I don't know.
05:27Baldness is kind of sexy, I think.
05:32I don't think too many of them would want to bother.
05:35Out of 100.
05:36Yes.
05:37Maybe 48.
05:3848 out of 100 said they would wear a toupee, all right?
05:40Randy, would it be higher or lower than 48?
05:44It's my hair, and I'm not...
05:46I noticed.
05:47I'm not thrilled about it, but I...
05:49I'm not either.
05:50I don't think I want to be bothered about wearing a toupee.
05:52I'm going to say it's a little bit higher yet.
05:54Yeah, you know...
05:55It would be such a shock, I think,
05:58to have a girl run her hands through your hair,
06:00and it comes out, and she sets it over to the side, yes.
06:04The actual number of these men who would wear a toupee is...
06:0818.
06:09It wasn't higher.
06:10It was lower.
06:11Martha!
06:12Martha, you have control.
06:13What?
06:14I said you have control, huh?
06:15Oh, I was right.
06:17Yeah, you were right, yes.
06:18Okay.
06:19You stay with me, doctor.
06:20It'll be all right.
06:21Martha, there's a three.
06:22How's that?
06:23Higher.
06:24Higher.
06:25Higher than the three.
06:26Your card's a 10.
06:27Freeze.
06:28Freeze?
06:29Freeze, all right.
06:30She's going to freeze right there.
06:31She doesn't want her opponent to get to those cards.
06:33All right.
06:34We'll be back in just a moment with more Card Sharks
06:36right after this.
06:42Welcome back to Card Sharks.
06:44We're in the middle of our match between Randy and Martha.
06:46Randy's got a pretty good lead in this game.
06:48Martha, you'll have a chance to do some catching up, though.
06:50And let's go to our next question right now.
06:52And Randy, this is an educated guest question.
06:54And Randy, in front of you, as you can see,
06:56you have a yellow card and a pen.
06:58And so I want you to write your answer.
07:00Here we go.
07:01Educated guest question.
07:02Randy, you have a yellow card and a pen.
07:04And so I want you to write your answer.
07:06Here we go.
07:07Educated guest question.
07:08Randy, you have a yellow card and a pen.
07:10And so I want you to write your answer.
07:11Here we go.
07:12Educated guest now.
07:13According to autograph expert Charles Hamilton,
07:16an autograph of John F. Kennedy cost $200.
07:21How much does an autograph of Richard Nixon cost?
07:25I want you to write down what you think an autograph
07:28of former president Richard Nixon might cost today
07:31to all those autographs.
07:35I'm going to say $250.
07:38$250.
07:39He had some, his signature went through some funny trends,
07:43changes during the course of his presidency.
07:45It certainly did, all right.
07:46Martha, he says an autograph of Richard Nixon
07:48would cost $250.
07:49An autograph of John F. Kennedy cost $200.
07:51Will it be higher or lower than $250?
07:53Kennedy's is $200?
07:55Yes, uh-huh.
07:56Well, he's dead and he can't write anymore, so.
07:58That's true, Martha, yes.
08:00I would think, I would think his would be worth more
08:04than the ones that are living
08:06because they can still write autographs.
08:08That's true again.
08:09So it'll be higher or lower than $250 for Richard Nixon?
08:11It'd be lower.
08:13Lower, you say?
08:14Well, let's find out.
08:15Here we go.
08:16The actual cost,
08:19the actual cost of Richard Nixon's autograph is $35.
08:25Yes, it was considerably lower.
08:27All right.
08:28Sorry about that, Randy.
08:29Martha, you've got control of the cards now.
08:31Martha.
08:32Change it.
08:33Change the 10?
08:34Okay, the 10 will now become a king.
08:36Lower.
08:38Lower than the king, your card is a king.
08:40It's okay.
08:41You go right back to that king.
08:42You've got a good base card.
08:43Randy, you get a free shot playing from the 8.
08:47Let's go out and go lower.
08:48Go lower?
08:49All right, if it's lower,
08:50you win game number one another $100.
08:52Let's find out if it is lower than the 8.
08:54It is not lower than the 8.
08:56And Martha, big deep breath, dear.
08:58Okay, this is our fourth and final question of this game.
09:01That means it's sudden death.
09:02Someone has to win the game
09:03on the next play of the cards.
09:04Control is really what you're looking for.
09:06The question's for you, Martha.
09:07We surveyed 100 bachelors.
09:08We asked them,
09:09would you respect a girl
09:11who let you pick her up in a bar?
09:14How many bachelors said they would respect her
09:17if they picked her up in a bar?
09:19Have you ever been picked up in a bar, Martha?
09:20No.
09:21Just thought I'd ask.
09:23You busy tonight?
09:25Yes.
09:26Oh, you are?
09:27Oh.
09:28She's busy.
09:31Well, I don't think they'd,
09:34they show much discretion by shopping
09:36in a bar for a girl.
09:38And this is not supermarket savings.
09:40I mean, this is just, you know.
09:42Let's see.
09:44Maybe 40.
09:4540 out of 100 bachelors
09:46said they would respect her then, right?
09:48All right, Randy, higher or lower than 40?
09:50Lower.
09:51I don't, I think when you're shopping
09:53for a woman in a bar,
09:54you're not really looking for a woman
09:55that you can respect.
09:57I think you're looking for some,
09:58yeah, I'm gonna lower.
10:00Oh, no.
10:02Oh, gosh.
10:04The actual number of bachelors
10:05who would respect a girl
10:06they picked up in a bar is 71.
10:09Not lower, it was higher.
10:11All right, now, sudden death.
10:14Martha, you have control.
10:15Now, these are your choices, hon.
10:17You can play off the king, play it out.
10:19If you goof, he wins the game.
10:20Or you can pass it on to Randy.
10:21You must play off the eight.
10:22If he makes a mistake,
10:23you win the game.
10:24I think I'm gonna pass.
10:25You're gonna pass it to Randy.
10:26Okay, Randy, playing from the eight,
10:27it's all up to you.
10:28Let's try lower, Bob.
10:30Let's try lower, Bob.
10:31He's gonna go lower.
10:32If it's lower, he wins game number one.
10:34If it's not lower, Martha wins the game.
10:36Is it lower than the eight?
10:37It is!
10:39And Randy, you've won the first game.
10:41Whoo!
10:44Still a good strategy, Martha.
10:45I think you did the right thing.
10:46Yeah, yeah.
10:47Really.
10:48All right, first game to Randy.
10:49If he wins the next game,
10:50he'll be our champ and play for the big money.
10:51Let's find out who wins game number two.
10:52We'll start that when we come back.
10:54But first, we must pause.
10:55We'll see you in just a moment.
11:00Welcome back to Card Sharks.
11:02Randy and Martha are two contestants.
11:03Our champion won the first game.
11:04Randy, if you win the next game, you're the champ.
11:06So, Martha, you've got to prevent that from happening.
11:08And Susanna's dealt out the cards.
11:09You hope, huh?
11:10Are you okay over there?
11:11Sure.
11:12All right.
11:13Where are you going tonight?
11:14Oh, that I'd be telling.
11:15Well, who are you going with?
11:16I'm telling.
11:17I'm telling that either.
11:18You have a lot of boyfriends?
11:19No, two.
11:20Two?
11:21Oh, jeez.
11:22Since you've been 18,
11:23have you always had a boyfriend, Martha?
11:24Oh, yeah.
11:25I was married for 58 years.
11:26Oh.
11:27So you've been married for 58 years.
11:28Yeah.
11:30I was married for 58 years.
11:31Oh, 58 years.
11:32All right.
11:33Yes.
11:34Okay.
11:35That's great, then.
11:36Here we go.
11:37Game number two.
11:38First question for you, Randy.
11:39Randy, we surveyed 100 millionaires
11:40and we asked them,
11:41did you graduate from college?
11:43How many millionaires did graduate from college?
11:47A lot of self-made millionaires
11:49who pulled themselves up from junkyards
11:52and all that sort of thing.
11:53But I think a vast majority of them did go to college.
11:56I'm going to say that's a pretty high number.
11:5872 of them.
11:5972 out of 100 millionaires,
12:01you say graduated from college.
12:02What do you think, Martha?
12:03Well, I don't know.
12:05There's a lot of smart people
12:06that never went to college
12:07and a lot of dumb ones that did.
12:09So...
12:10I wish I'd have said that.
12:11I think it's a little bit lower than that.
12:13You think it's lower than that?
12:15I have no idea,
12:16but I'll bet you it's a lot lower.
12:17Let's see.
12:18The actual number of millionaires
12:19who graduated from college is...
12:2160 of them.
12:22Not a lot lower,
12:23but it was lower.
12:24Okay.
12:25Martha.
12:26Martha has control,
12:27and Martha, here's your card.
12:28Nine.
12:29Play or change, hon?
12:30I want to change it.
12:31Change that card.
12:32Thank you, Susanna.
12:33Nine is now a ten,
12:34and now you've got to play.
12:35Lower?
12:36Lower.
12:37She says it's lower than a ten,
12:38and it is.
12:39Higher!
12:40Higher than the deuce,
12:41and it is.
12:42Freeze.
12:43Freeze on the eight.
12:44Sure, right there.
12:45Two cards away from tying up this match.
12:47Okay, let's go to another question.
12:48Martha, remember those ten pretty single ladies
12:50that are with us?
12:51Well, they're back,
12:52and this question involves them,
12:53and they're all set up.
12:55Here we go.
12:57Now, Martha,
12:59before the show,
13:00we asked these ten single women,
13:02right now,
13:03do you think you need
13:04to lose some weight?
13:06How many of these ten women
13:07do think they need
13:08to lose some weight?
13:10Well, they look fine to me,
13:11but I know that that's a fad
13:13to get thin,
13:14so I'd say...
13:18half of them.
13:19Five.
13:20Five of them.
13:21All right.
13:22Will it be higher or lower than that, Randy?
13:23Most women think they want
13:24to lose weight all the time.
13:25I'm going to say a little higher.
13:26The total number of these women
13:27who think they need
13:28to lose some weight is...
13:29eight of them.
13:30You're right.
13:31Whoa!
13:32That's amazing to me,
13:36because you all look
13:37in pretty good shape.
13:38Show me.
13:39Which eight say
13:40they need to lose some weight?
13:41Show me.
13:42Raise your hands, ladies.
13:43Jackie, you don't need
13:44to lose weight.
13:45Yes, I do.
13:46Where?
13:47My rear.
13:48Oh.
13:49Why do I ask those questions?
13:50Show me.
13:51No, go sit down, ladies.
13:52Thank you very much.
13:53Okay.
13:54Randy, you ready?
13:56There's your card.
13:57Eight is it.
13:58Oh, may I change that card, please?
13:59All right.
14:00The eight is a jack.
14:01That's better.
14:02Let's go lower, Bob.
14:03Lower than the jack.
14:04Is it lower?
14:05No, not lower.
14:06Okay, Martha,
14:07from the eight,
14:08you get a free chance.
14:09Lower.
14:10Lower.
14:11Lower than the eight,
14:12the lady says it is.
14:13Now what, dear?
14:14Can I freeze again?
14:15I have to go on?
14:16No, you can freeze
14:17if you want,
14:18or you can go on.
14:19I'll freeze.
14:20You're going to freeze.
14:21Okay.
14:22You're going to freeze
14:23right there, boy.
14:24All right.
14:25Here's a question for you, Randy.
14:26We surveyed 100 male doctors,
14:28and we asked them,
14:29if a wife uses her salary
14:31to put her husband
14:32through medical school,
14:33but then they get a divorce,
14:35should she own part
14:37of his medical practice?
14:39How many men doctors
14:40said, yes,
14:41the ex-wife should own
14:42part of the medical practice?
14:44How many of the doctors
14:45agreed that they would?
14:46How many men doctors
14:47said, yes,
14:48the ex-wife should own
14:49part of the medical practice?
14:50I don't think
14:51that's going to be
14:52a very high number at all.
14:53I'm going to say
14:5445.
14:5545 out of 100.
14:56Martha, higher or lower
14:57than that?
14:58Well, maybe they don't think so,
15:00but I would think
15:01that they should.
15:02If they put him through school,
15:03I think it ought to be
15:04a little...
15:05Let's see.
15:06He says,
15:0745 out of 100 men doctors
15:08said, yes,
15:09the ex-wife should own
15:10part of the practice.
15:11Well, I don't think
15:12the doctors would agree,
15:13so make it a little lower.
15:14Make it a little lower
15:15than that?
15:16Well, let's find out.
15:17I'm not so sure
15:18they should own
15:19part of the practice,
15:20but I certainly think
15:21they should be paid
15:22for the money they invested.
15:23I think the ex-wife
15:24should own part
15:25of the medical practice
15:26is 40 of them.
15:27Boy, it was lower,
15:28but just a little lower,
15:29Martha.
15:30Martha, now...
15:31I'll change it.
15:32Do you want to change
15:33to seven?
15:34Sure.
15:35Seven is a key.
15:36If it's lower,
15:37you win game number two.
15:38We'll play a tiebreaker
15:39and look at that.
15:40All right.
15:41So now we're all tied up.
15:42One game
15:43for each of our contestants.
15:44That means
15:45the tiebreaker game
15:46is coming up.
15:47We'll find out
15:48who our champion will be.
15:49We'll pause first,
15:50though.
15:51We'll be right back
15:52with these two
15:53very delightful people.

16:10high-low questions.

16:16to the two of you.
16:17The winner becomes our champ.
16:18Question for you,
16:19Martha.
16:20Here it is.
16:22Here's the question.
16:23We ask them,
16:24do you own a handgun?
16:25How many people
16:26said they do own
16:27a handgun?
16:28High number,
16:29about 75.
16:3075 out of 100.
16:31Randy,
16:32higher or lower?
16:33Oh, boy,
16:34I think it's gonna be
16:35a little bit lower
16:36than that, Bob.
16:37A little lower than that?
16:38Let's see.
16:39The actual number
16:40of people who own
16:41a handgun is
16:4215 of them.
16:43Boy, you're right.
16:44I'm surprised at that.
16:45Oh, my.
16:46Okay, Randy,

16:48from being the champ again.
16:49Let's see.
