We will be joined by PCOS warrior, Rina Maglalang, to share her PCOS journey

You have been fighting PCOS for 11 years now.

But how did you know that you have PCOS?

First of all, I was still in high school when I had a problem during my menstruation period.

So that became a warning to me.

And then until such time, when I got married, I said that something is not right with my health.

So when I found out that I have the symptoms, I immediately consulted a doctor.

And then the doctor recommended medicines to regulate my menstruation.

Okay, PCOS is said to be very difficult to feel.

It has an effect on your mental health and physical health, right?

So in your journey, in your personal experience, how did it affect you?

First of all, I am always moody.

Because there are times when even I can't understand my emotions.

Like this morning, I am okay.

And then in the afternoon, it's different.

At night, my feelings and emotions are different.

So it's really hard to deal with.

Especially when your mood swings are weak.

Because there are people around you that you really have to control your emotions.

So it's a challenge for us to fight this kind of health issue.

Because sometimes, there are people that you can't understand because of your mood swings.

Not all people can understand that.

Especially if they don't have that kind of feeling.

And it affects our mental health.

Because for us, we can't understand why we feel that way.

So it's really challenging mentally.

Alright, we understand that there is no cure for PCOS.

But how do you think a healthy and active lifestyle can help manage PCOS symptoms?

If a woman has PCOS, one of the symptoms is obesity.

So in order for us to avoid obesity, we need to have an active lifestyle.

So that we can reduce our stored fats, lower our uric acid, and lower our sugar.

Because when I started being active, I noticed that my sugar levels went down.

My uric acid went down.

So it really affects me when I have regular physical activities.

One of the exercises that you recommend is running.

How can we practice this effectively?

Do you also join running events?

Yes, I join fun runs.

I also have a club that I joined.

We have weekly activities.

One of my exercises, aside from running, is walking.

Because there are times when I can't go to community runs.

Sometimes, when I have time before work, I do a solo run.

When I don't have time, I really keep moving.

I walk. Instead of riding a tricycle, I walk.

It's important because you don't need to spend money.

You just need to walk and run a certain distance.

Aside from that, I also do exercises like strengthening and conditioning.

It's very effective for people with PCOS because you sweat more.

It helps to fight obesity.

That's why I encourage other people to do that kind of activity.

Lastly, what are your messages to your female colleagues who are experiencing PCOS?

You mentioned earlier that there is no cure for this.

For people like me, engage with the community.

Especially if you want to be physically active.

Like me, I joined a run club.

I also joined an exclusive community of women.

Because when you're in a community, you become more open about your emotions.

You get to know people who are in the same situation as you.

You will be able to fight the symptoms.

Especially now, this condition is not directly curable.

That's why having a physically active lifestyle and joining a community

that you think will help you become more physically active is better.

We also need a healthy lifestyle.
