Why Ryan Reynolds Is Trying To Make A New Blade Movie

00:09Welcome back everyone is Charlie Deadpool and Wolverine has made well over a billion
00:13dollars.
00:14It's made more money than Captain America Civil War and now Ryan Reynolds is using that
00:18clout that it gives him inside Marvel to get a new blade movie made for Wesley Snipes currently
00:24that new Mahershala Ali blade movies been stuck in development hell for years now even
00:30Bo DeMaio the disgraced former showrunner of X-Men 97 has been spilling tea left and
00:35right explaining that one point he was hired to write a version that movie he leaked the
00:40entire plot of what his version the blade movie was going to be all explain it later
00:44during this video because it does sound pretty wild.
00:47So Marvel's been in complete chaos with the blade character the last several years incomes
00:53Ryan Reynolds now with his own idea for a blade movie for Wesley Snipes.
00:58So will break it all down.

01:17is tied to a lot of the supernatural plans that Marvel has going forward like midnight
01:21sons is a big crossover team a project they're working on for those characters different
01:26from the Avengers movies all explain some of those later in the video, but based on
01:30how much money Deadpool and Wolverine has earned now I think most people on the planet
01:34have seen the movie, but just in case careful for spoilers for the film because we do need
01:38to talk about some key things that happen with the characters particularly Wesley Snipes
01:43blade as you all saw in the trailers.
01:45Even if you haven't seen the movie you would've seen in the trailers that they release they
01:48brought back Wesley Snipes as a version of his blade from the blade movies saying that
01:52those took place in a totally different universe separate from the Fox X-Men universe.
01:57Those blade movies were made by new line they played it fast and loose which universe everyone
02:02came from.
02:03But for the most part is that all the major characters came from their own universes with
02:07exception to like the X-Men characters that all came from the Fox X-Men universe.
02:11If you really want to get into the weeds on that kind of stuff Electra for instance came
02:15from Ben Affleck's Daredevil movie then had her own spinoff movie, but those are made
02:19by Fox.
02:20So theoretically you think that they would come from the Fox X-Men universe because usually
02:23when we talk about Fox Marvel movies we talk about them all being from the same universe
02:28the movie did not do that though like they explained that Electra came from a completely
02:31separate universe different from the Fox X-Men universe Channing Tatum's gambit was the other
02:37exception to this rule he was saved from the void by someone with a sling ring at the end
02:41the movie as opposed the TV this is like a deleted scene from the post credits that
02:45Ryan released all because he had no universe to go back to even though he would have gone
02:51to the X-Men universe had they have made his movie.
02:53It was part of the joke of his character during the film there are a lot of moments planning
02:57on the fact that he had no universe to come back from because they never did make his
03:00movie call me to gambit today.
03:03You sure you didn't just really really want them to, but it never quite worked out.
03:06But at the end of the movie most of the variants like Wesley Snipes blade for instance all
03:10got sent back to the original universes that they came from by the TVA loved him in the
03:16movie Wesley Snipes was great great action scenes and great jokes to after the movie
03:22came out Ryan Reynolds then posted that he was trying to get Marvel to make a new Logan
03:26style sendoff movie for Wesley Snipes all because he never got that chance in the original
03:32movies.
03:33I was not expecting to see you here, but you were, you know, retired.
03:38If you don't remember way back in the day after the blade Trinity movie.
03:41They just decided they were going to move on with the character they wanted to do a
03:44blade TV series that was on spike TV.
03:47You do not have to watch that if you haven't seen it, but if you have seen it raise your
03:50hand in the comments there was actually a little while we thought that that version
03:54of blade the TV version of blade was going to be in the movie, but it wound up being
03:57a variant of bullseye instead.
04:00That's who this guy was he was a bullseye variant and at the time the studio didn't
04:04want to pay for another Wesley Snipes fourth blade movie like we're done with you basically
04:08kind of situation if you don't remember that era of Marvel movies or you were around yet
04:13like you were born yet or you didn't have a chance to see those movies blade Trinity
04:17featured a very young version early superhero version of Ryan Reynolds is Hannibal King
04:22from the Marvel comics.
04:24There was a ton of drama on the set of that movie while they were making it.
04:27It was reported by wildly in the press that could became a real big thing.
04:31Ryan Reynolds specifically calls it out in some of the jokes during deadpool Wolverine
04:35where he says blade never did like him already in the void and not trying to get canceled
04:39again I don't like you never did he's not lying.
04:42That's a very accurate statement on the set of blade Wesley Snipes famously went full
04:48method actor many that he stayed in character as blade throughout the entire filming of
04:53that movie.
04:54It was really serious.
04:55He was really hardcore the whole time in Ryan Reynolds and the other actors a lot of them
04:59comedians in their own right mostly known for doing comedy movies tried to get him to
05:03break left and right in scenes Wesley Snipes did not appreciate that as you can imagine.
05:08So it led to very very tense sets.
05:12So for a lot of time after the movie came out a lot of the press were reporting that
05:15Wesley Snipes and Ryan Reynolds hated each other for all the drama that went down on
05:19the set of that movie.
05:21The way that they both told the truth of the story recently is that neither one ever had
05:26any beef against each other and if they did it was water under the bridge many many many
05:31years ago the way that Ryan Reynolds told the story.
05:34He said that he cold called Wesley Snipes after 20 years and sort of pitched him the
05:39idea of bringing his blade character back Wesley Snipes said that he loved the idea
05:44like he was happy to hear from him to bring blade back, but he Wesley Snipes did not think
05:49that marvel the studio would let them do it like they're never gonna go for this like
05:53even though you want to bring all these characters back.
05:55There's no way the gonna want me back.
05:57He figured that marvel didn't really care about his blade movies or bringing him back
06:00at all which makes it sound like he had not secretly been talking to marvel about coming
06:04back and Mahershala Ali's blade movie like marvel was not even considering bringing him
06:08back in that which feels like a huge omission like what would you even think about bringing
06:12him back at some point Ryan Reynolds calls Wesley Snipes the godfather of both the Fox
06:18marvel universe in the MCU because it is post here he says neither one of those would exist
06:23if that first blade movie had not blown up as big as it did in the 90's and he is correct
06:27in that that was the movie that made studio executives at different places feel like they
06:31could actually create a cinematic universe of movies Ryan Reynolds version of a blade
06:36movie for Wesley Snipes would play out more thematically like the Logan movie the way
06:39he calls it a sendoff style movie Deadpool and Wolverine brought him back then saved
06:44him at the end of the film to clearly set the concept that he was out there in the multiverse
06:48active ready to return in future movies at any time like hey call me anytime I'm ready
06:53to come back again that was also the reason why they save gambit that the whole reason
06:57for that gambit post credit scene so they could bring him back again that's why he smiling
07:01when he seen the sling ring portal open in his eyes like aha I'll be back.
07:06So when he's talking about a Logan style sendoff movie for blade.
07:09You have to remember that the Logan movie did kill off Hugh Jackman's original Wolverine
07:13character from those X-Men movies.
07:15He was a big joke during Deadpool and Wolverine they clowned on it hard.
07:20You also have to remember that he's talking more about a blade movie in the tone of Wesley
07:24Snipes original blade movies.
07:25So wouldn't be like him doing another blade movie with Deadpool in it with a lot of Deadpool
07:29style comedy or even his Hannibal King coming back.
07:33He said a long time ago he'd never wanted to come back as Hannibal King.
07:36So be a smaller self-contained more serious movie like the Logan film was which I think
07:41is the right way to go.
07:43Given how much money Deadpool and Wolverine is making it does sound like they're gonna
07:46make Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman do this until their 90 and they given him carte blanche
07:50inside the Marvel universe to do whatever he wants.
07:53But I think the caveat to that is that it's as Deadpool as long as he comes back and does
07:58whatever he wants to do as Deadpool the let him do it.
08:01So that's why Ryan Reynolds is having so much trouble in actually getting another blade
08:04movie for Wesley Snipes like he's got all this extra juice, but it's only as the Deadpool
08:09character in Deadpool would not be in that new blade movie.
08:13The other big problem that Wesley Snipes and Ryan Reynolds face is that Marvel is so focused
08:18on making this Mahershala Ali blade movie supposedly there been so many scripts and
08:23so many directors coming on you remember that they announced the movie back at Marvel comic
08:27con 2019.
08:29That's how long ago it was this saga of them trying to get the movie made for so many years
08:33has gone on for so long that Mahershala Ali is ready to actually quit the character recently
08:39Bo DeMaio who's been in the news for all the wrong reasons the past couple months trying
08:43to get Marvel to sue him out of existence just leaked the entire plot from the blade
08:48movie when he was hired to write it.
08:50His version is from a couple years ago when he was hired then fired from the blade movie
08:55that was long before he was fired from X-Men 97 so that this goes way back.
08:59He says he wrote three drafts in a dozen outlines in three months, but his favorite that he
09:04wrote was a raid style treatment where blade finds himself defending a rundown tenement
09:09of humans from Varney's vamp hordes until daylight.
09:13The Varney character is a villain vampire from the Doctor strange comics like is a big
09:17Marvel crossover character.
09:19He says the entire movie takes place over a single night and he learns from one of the
09:23tenants Jericho drum also Marvel character that Varney's attacking them because there's
09:28a female tenant also living there who blade kind of fancies as he calls it like she becomes
09:34a love interest in the movie has been magically impregnated with Lilith by the other tenants
09:39who are secretly dark old cultists more dark old talk when we got in that during Doctor
09:43strange multiverse of madness during one division.
09:46So he says think of the movie as 30 days of night meets rosemary's baby the baby is Lilith
09:52then he says in the end blade is forced to decide what to do with her the woman in the
09:57baby Lilith in the final act to keep the mother of evil out of Varney's hands as the first
10:03vampire arrives to kidnap her drum winds up bringing out some old voodoo occult objects
10:08to help blade in the end defeat the Varney character that he says he got fired off the
10:13movie before he was able to work on it more.
10:15It sounds like at the end of that movie blade is deciding what to do with the love interest.
10:19He never names who they actually would have been like just a generic love interest, but
10:23she still pregnant with Lilith.
10:25It sounds like he's implying that the ending would have had him not killing the baby still
10:29in her womb both the mother and the baby Lilith survive to the sequel movies sort of
10:34like a grogu Mandalorian situation with blade becoming like the Mandalorian having to deal
10:39with this kid who is technically Lilith wondering whether or not she ever will turn evil because
10:44she is technically Lilith it be kind of like the Mandalorian.
10:48If he was more worried about grogu turning to the Sith generally sounds like a pretty
10:52solid pitch for at least that first blade movie depending on where they want to take
10:56things in the future.
10:58Maybe they're not making that movie now they fired boat to mail long time ago, so they
11:01moved on to like a completely separate plot for the film and if marvel does refuse to
11:06make Wesley Snipes his own blade sendoff movie.
11:09They should at least just make him a bigger part of the Mahershala Ali blade movie or
11:13at least bring him back as a bigger character in secret wars which we know will be a multiverse
11:17movie.
11:18The only problem with that is the secret wars is already such a big movie with a billion
11:22characters you can't really do a character justice unless he's one of like the top five
11:26characters in in the case of Deadpool Wolverine Wesley Snipes was one of those main characters,
11:32but it sounds like he would not be during secret wars.
11:35The other problem here to Deadpool clowns on during Deadpool and Wolverine saying that
11:39they're getting all tired of the multiverse here marvel slowly trying to move past that
11:42by the end of secret wars and if you bring Wesley Snipes blade back in the Mahershala
11:46Ali blade you have to do it is another multiverse kind of story and it sounds like marvel does
11:51not want to do that like they want Mahershala Ali's blade movie to be more of like a single
11:56universe more self-contained kind of story connected to other supernatural characters,
12:00but from the MCU not from other universes their whole plan for Mahershala Ali's blade
12:06character is that he was going to be one of the leaders of like a midnight sun style team
12:10up with characters like Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, other supernatural characters inside
12:14the MCU that you would necessarily see inside an Avengers movie like werewolf by night.
12:18For instance, so marvel has all these big plans for the blade character, but they were
12:22specifically for the Mahershala Ali version of blade.
12:26So does kind of feel like the only way to give Wesley Snipes a Logan style blade send-off
12:30movie would be to do it is like a small self-contained kind of thing in his own universe that does
12:36not cross over with like a bunch of MCU characters I'll be totally fine with that.
12:40Even if they want to do a short film like just do something give him something way back
12:45in the day.
12:46If you don't remember seeing the movies on the DVDs they release and deleted scenes there
12:49were all kinds of connections that they were setting up with other big marvel characters.
12:53For instance, there's a whole alternate ending for that first blade movie where he winds
12:57up seeing Morbius Morbius was going to be in blade two at one point this kind of like
13:02a deleted post credit scene.
13:04So they would've gone full Morben time in blade two, but I think that was before they
13:07hired Guillermo del Toro to do it and he wanted to do a completely separate type of blade
13:12movie different story.
13:13So that's why blade to look so different from blade one, but I do feel like if you're looking
13:18at Wesley Snipes blade trilogy the first blade movie is still the best one that's probably
13:23one of the reasons that's held marvel up for so long trying to make this new blade movie.
13:27They don't want to make it if they don't think is going to be better than that first blade

13:36blade going forward like obviously the probably try and bring him back for another cameo at
13:40some point, but how do you want them to give him a Logan style blade send-off story really
13:46really cool to see Ryan Reynolds try to use all the juice that he's been given with the
13:50success the Deadpool character to try and help other people from early in his career
13:55like that was a big step up for him when he was in the blade movie that's really how you
13:59should do it in Hollywood like somebody else helps you early in your career.
14:02Then when you become the big star later on you help them is a bunch of big stuff coming
14:07up like I said lots of scarlet witch stuff happening in the first couple episodes of
