April 29, 2009--Award-winning Brazilian director Jose Padilha (Bus 174, Elite Squad) discusses his new film, Garapa, which is being screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. Garapa is Portuguese for the sugar water used to stave off children's hunger pangs, often a substitute for nourishment. This powerful and moving documentary chronicles the daily lives of three impoverished families in Northeastern Brazil.
