Top 10 Pokemon Mistakes Left in the Show

00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 mistakes left

00:12in the Pokemon anime.

00:15Both of Ash's Pokemon are water types and they're totally weak against fire types.

00:19Number 10, Zubat's Carry Squirtle.

00:23For many of us, the original Pokemon opening theme is something that'll be ingrained into

00:27our brains forever.

00:29there's one very strange oversight that's left us scratching our heads.

00:39Towards the end of the song, there's a moment where Pikachu rides on top of Pidgeotto, Bulbasaur

00:44has his vines wrapped around Butterfree, and Zubat is just, well, carrying Squirtle somehow

00:51despite having no arms.

00:54We'd say that Zubat is pretty strong for carrying a Pokémon twice their size, but

01:00how exactly is he holding onto Squirtle?

01:03Perhaps the two found some incredibly adhesive double-tape.

01:11Number 9 – Team Rocket's Terrible Pokémon Knowledge

01:14Pokémon's epic debut on the big screen had quite a few errors here and there, but

01:24this was probably one of the most glaring ones.

01:27After Team Rocket somehow find themselves in Mewtwo's cloning room, the computer screens

01:32start showing silhouettes of all the Pokémon going through the process.

01:37When Scyther pops up, the two proudly proclaim it's Alakazam, despite the Pokémon looking

01:43nothing alike.

01:48Now, Team Rocket aren't exactly the brightest out there, so you could argue that they're

01:53likely to make this sort of mistake.

01:55So we guess this is one mistake that kinda worked out in the end.

02:04Number 8 – Baby Nidoqueen

02:06First appearing in Mewtwo Strikes Back, the cloned Nidoqueen makes a reappearance in the

02:12sequel movie, Mewtwo Returns.

02:14What's absolutely bizarre about this scene is that Nidoqueen has offspring – tiny little

02:20baby Nidoqueen.

02:28Why is this such a big error, you might ask?

02:30Well, first of all, Nidoqueen is part of a group of Pokémon that do not have the ability

02:36to breed.

02:38Secondly, even if Nidoqueen did have this ability, its offspring would be Nidoran, not

02:46the last member of the evolutionary line.

02:48Perhaps something went strangely wrong during Mewtwo's cloning process.

02:56Number 7 – Venonat is not a Bug-Type, according to Misty

03:01Misty's phobia of Bug-Type Pokémon was well-established all the way back in the third episode, when

03:07Ash caught a Pokémon for the first time, Caterpie.

03:11Her fear is on display in full force once again in the episode, Tracy Gets Bugged, after

03:17a wild Pinsir suddenly pops out of the bushes.

03:24Immediately following this scene, the gang discusses what a good team Tracy's Marill

03:29and Venonat are, only for Misty to make this weird proclamation.

03:33We're not exactly sure how on Earth she made this mistake, considering Venonat has

03:41all the key features any sort of bug would have, including its big compound eyes and

03:47long antennae.

03:48But if this is a coping mechanism against her phobia, then we guess we'll just let

03:53her get away with it.

03:56Number 6 – Ash Forgets Coughing Ash's adventure lasted well over a thousand

04:02episodes, so we can't blame the 10-year-old for forgetting some of the many Pokémon he

04:07encountered.

04:08But honestly, this one kind of stings.

04:11In the episode, Rocking the Furbang Gym, Ash meets Roxy, who has a coughing by her side.

04:22Ash immediately takes out his Pokédex as though he's encountered this Pokémon for

04:27the first time, forgetting that he encountered James' countless times in the original series.

04:35We can forgive the show for explaining recurring Pokémon over the years, and a good chunk

04:39of the audience is often too young to have seen everything.

04:43But in this particular case, it made Ash look like he had the memory of a Goldeen.

04:49Number 5 – PokéRap Blunder Back in the original season of Pokémon, the

04:55early episodes would close with the iconic and ever-catchy PokéRap.

05:00It was actually a great lesson for all of us Poké beginners who were still learning

05:04all the names to all of these creatures.

05:07Unfortunately, there were two glaring mistakes within the song.

05:11When Poliwag shows up, the singer brazenly mentions Poliwrath.

05:20You could just overlook this as a minor mistake, but they make yet another mistake by calling

05:25Geodude Graveler.

05:31There were only 151 Pokémon back then, so we can only imagine how many mistakes they

05:36would make if the PokéRap was sung today.

05:46Number 4 – Tokidamaruchu We know it's hard to keep up with all the

05:51Pika clones that keep popping up in every new iteration of the Pokémon game series.

05:57But this mishap certainly takes the cake.

06:03In the fifth episode of the Sun and Moon series titled Yo-Ho-Ho!

06:07Go Popplio!, the titular Pokémon displays its balloon skills to everyone.

06:12As Ash gets caught in it, at the very bottom of the screen, you can see that Tokidamaru

06:17has been miscoloured as Pikachu.

06:24This is despite the fact that Pikachu is already in the same scene.

06:28This error would later be corrected in the English dubbed version, but for a short time,

06:33you could have claimed that this was some rare regional Tokidamaru variant that just

06:38so happened to swim into this very shot.

06:47Number 3 – Bulbasaur Uses Whirlwind In the episode, A Ninja Poké Showdown, Ash

06:53battles it out against Aya and her Venonat, sending out his Bulbasaur.

07:05During the showdown, the Ninja Girl tells her Pokémon to use Stun Spore.

07:09Ash counters by telling his Bulbasaur to use Whirlwind, a move that he cannot legally learn.

07:19Apparently, this was also a dubbing error, as in the original version, Ash told Bulbasaur

07:25to just blow it away.

07:28While not exclusive, Whirlwind is often a move associated with Pokémon with wings,

07:33so seeing Bulbasaur pull this off was bizarre to say the least.

07:39Number 2 – Double Pikachu In the Diamond and Pearl episode, Regaining

07:44the Home Advantage, Dawn sends out Mamoswine to battle against a rampaging Metagross.

07:55This scene is notorious due to the fact that Ash mistakenly has not just one, but two Pikachu

08:01with him – one on his shoulder and one standing on the ground.

08:07To make matters even worse, there's an animation issue where it appears as though the gang's

08:12feet are merging into the sidewalk.

08:14Now, we can't explain that error, but perhaps the second Pikachu is the clone from the Mewtwo

08:20movie.

08:21Or maybe there's always been a second Pikachu, and we just didn't notice.

08:45Number 1 – Arbok evolves into Sir Viper

08:48Apparently, as the Pokémon series went on, the show tried to spice up the original Who's

08:55That Pokémon?

08:56with a Trainer's Choice segment.

08:58Here, we'd be treated to a sort of trivia game with multiple choices.

09:02The segment in A Fan with a Plan, however, left a lot of Pokémasters scratching their

09:07heads when it asked what evolves into Sir Viper.

09:17This was already a huge mistake as Sir Viper doesn't evolve from anything.

09:22To make this segment even worse, the answer was presented as Arbok, who has absolutely

09:27no ties to Sir Viper, and instead evolves from Ekans.

09:37We hope nobody took this segment seriously, otherwise they'd be wasting a lot of time

09:42trying to evolve their Arbok.
