I had the rare opportunity to talk to Pope Francis.

In a remote barangay in Baguio City, I met Lola Petra.

I also remember that aside from Lola Petra,

there is another elderly woman who I always take out to sunbathe.

Her name is Lola Rose.

She is sick, blind, and barely able to walk.

Within 11 years, no one visited Lola Rose.

She has no other wish but to see her child in another country.

Ten years have passed, but only a few of the original grandmothers here have seen me.

Many are now free, but some have also been sentenced to death in prison.

Until her last breath, she did not see her family.

According to the Correctional Institution for Women,

there are about 555 elderly prisoners here.

Recently, the Department of Justice issued a resolution

stating that if a prisoner reaches the age of 70

and has served his sentence for 10 years,

he can be released under the process of parole or executive clemency.
