00:00One small step for man, one giant leap for private industry.
00:04On Thursday, astronauts from the Polaris program conducted the first ever commercial spacewalk.
00:09According to the New York Times, this project is a collaboration between Elon Musk's SpaceX
00:14and billionaire Jared Isaacman. Isaacman was on the mission himself and was the first of two
00:19crew members to briefly exit the space capsule. The second was SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis.
00:25The Times says Isaacman and Gillis were outside the capsule for less than 10 minutes each.
00:30Spacewalks are a common feature of governmental space travel. Here we see NASA astronauts
00:35installing a solar array on the International Space Station in 2022. But this Polaris mission
00:40is part of a continuing expansion into outer space by private individuals and companies.
