Emily Henry Says New Book Was 'Really Emotional,' Teases 'Slight Departure' From Normal Genre

00:00I know you said that there's another book possibly coming in the future.

00:04Is there anything you can confirm or deny about that? We also love the color schemes of the book,

00:09so if you have any thoughts on what the color scheme might be for the next book,

00:13or how you pick that out. Yeah, that's so fun.

00:19Well, as far as color scheme, I did have thoughts that were sort of pulling from

00:25past covers, but also we're just starting our cover conversations, and so we don't really

00:32know what's going to be happening. And I don't know, but yes, I have started thinking,

00:37trying to think forward when we're designing covers, being like, okay, well, what can we play

00:41with later based on these colors we're already using? So that's definitely in the forefront of

00:47my and my editor's minds. We love to overthink everything. What I can tell you about the book is

00:53it feels, in a way, to me, it feels like a spiritual air to be treed, but it's different.

01:04It's different. It's not be treed again. And it feels like my first real departure, but it is

01:09still both a love story and a romance. There is still a romance that I think will satisfy the

01:13romance readers, but it feels like the first time that the book has led me into kind of different

01:19terrain. And it also was the first writing experience I've had since be treed that was

01:26really emotional. It felt like it poured out. The first draft poured out of me so quickly,

01:31which of course means every other draft is going to be brutal and terrible, but it poured out of

01:36me and it really gripped me in a way that I hadn't been gripped in a while. And it makes me nervous.

01:40And I feel like that's always a good sign when you have a book and you're really scared of it

01:45because it means you're really trying. And I would always rather do a big swing and miss

01:50than just not try. So I feel cautiously optimistic about it. I think readers will

01:57still be on board, but it is, like I said, it's a slight departure,

02:00but there's still a love story front and center. So I think that will help.
