00:00These rarely seen pictures of the elephants at Blackpool Tower Circus are quite extraordinary.

00:09The circus hasn't used animals since 1990 but until then they were a prominent part

00:14of circus life, routines and entertainment.

00:17The Tower Circus is famous for its elephants and they were often seen being exercised on

00:22the beach and seafront.

00:23It was an awesome sight.

00:26Deep beneath the circus ring, the stables and pens used to house these magnificent animals

00:31still remain due to the building's listed status.

00:34These days it does make for uncomfortable viewing, in some of the pictures at least,

00:39but the elephants are a key part of our circus's legacy.
