The UEFA Champions League remains the biggest and most wanted prize in men’s football, but this season marks a change in the format that stems back over 20 years. We’re looking at the format to give you abit more understanding on how it will work this campaign.

00:00The draw for the UEFA Champions League has been completed in Monaco, with some struggling

00:07to understand the new format, so let's break it down.

00:11The straightforward 32-team competition, with eight groups of four, from which the top two

00:16in each progressed to the knockout round, has been replaced by one with 36 clubs in

00:22one giant league.

00:24Each club in the competition will play eight different opponents, four of the matches will

00:28be played at home and four away.

00:30The results will determine places in a 36-team league table, with goal difference, then goal

00:36scored and then the disciplinary record taken into account if the number of points is the

00:41same.

00:42The top eight in the table qualify for the round of 16, to be played in March, and the

00:47bottom 12 clubs are eliminated.

00:50The 16 clubs who finished in 9th to 24th will go into a home and away knockout play-off

00:56round that takes place in February.
