00:00Thank you for coming out.
00:01We really appreciate it.
00:02It's been a historical, amazing hip hop week here at Billboard.
00:06I'm glad that we can have this R&B celebration.
00:09I'm Damian Scott.
00:10I'm the Deputy Editorial Director at Billboard.
00:13I've been here for a year so far.
00:14It's been an amazing, amazing ride.
00:17But tonight, I'm here to talk about a very special person.
00:21When we named Jaguar 2 as one of the best albums of 2023,
00:25we said the album signaled Victoria Monet's
00:27commercial breakthrough and put her on the same page
00:30as all the superstars whose careers she helped
00:33elevate in the years past, because that's what she does.
00:37She just makes everything better.
00:39And then she has kept it moving.
00:41Her mainstream arrival came when she won three Grammys,
00:44including one for Best New Artist.
00:47And she's been on a roll since then.
00:48Her smash hit, On My Mama, was one of the only two songs
00:53to top the adult R&B airplay, mainstream R&B hip hop
00:56airplay, and R&B hip hop airplay charts in the last year.
01:01But all of that is only a small part
01:03of why we're so proud to present her
01:05with the 2024 Hitmaker Award.
01:08Victoria Monet, please come down and accept this.
01:21Thank you for the sparking microphone.
01:24Do you mind holding this for me?
01:27Hey, y'all.
01:28How we feeling?
01:30I just, hey.
01:31Sorry, I saw Tenario.
01:34I just want to start off by saying thank you so much,
01:36Billboard, for this recognition.
01:38This is a place that I dream to be amongst people
01:40that I really admire.
01:41My peers, legends, and all of the other honorees
01:45really inspire me.
01:46So thank you so much for letting me be amongst you.
01:51I also want to say shout out to all the moms in the room.
01:57The record that I wrote on my mama
02:00I wrote when I was just trying to make it through postpartum.
02:05I had a seven-week-old.
02:07Titties was bigger, everything.
02:09You know, I was just trying to figure it out.
02:11So I really had to manifest a mindset
02:13that I wanted to be in.
02:14So I want to encourage all the moms in the room,
02:17all the moms-to-be, mothers of dogs,
02:20mothers of whatever kind of thing you're, yeah.
02:23Dog moms, too, because it takes time
02:26to put in care for another living being.
02:28But I just want to encourage you to stay inspired,
02:31fight through all the dark moments.
02:32And there is light at the end of every single tunnel.
02:35I want to thank my team.
02:37Rochelle's in the building.
02:38She saw things in me that a lot of people
02:41didn't see before.
02:42It was cool to like Victoria.
02:44She was there fighting for me.
02:45I want to thank RCA.
02:48A record doesn't do much in a hard drive.
02:49So I want to shout out my radio team.
02:52They really worked really, really hard
02:54and believed in this record.
02:55And that's how I think a lot of you heard it.
02:57But also, a record isn't really much without the people
03:01to hold their arms open and accept it and run with the torch.
03:03So thank everybody who bought it, who streamed it,
03:05who danced to it, twerked to it, everything
03:08you did with this record, and especially
03:09to get to this award that I'll have forever.
03:11So I appreciate you.
03:12I love you.
03:13Thank you so much.
