01:29And on Saturday, residents in Kursk went to the polls to vote in local elections.
01:35The western Russian region is where Ukraine launched a lightning incursion on August 6,
01:40seizing several settlements with the aim of creating a buffer zone inside Russia.
01:50British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has met his Irish counterpart Simon Harris in Dublin
01:55in a visit described as a reset.
01:58Starmer's trip is the first by a British leader to Ireland in five years and is a further
02:02sign that the two wish to deepen relations on economic and security matters.
02:07It's a pleasure to be here, to have this opportunity which we will take to renew the friendship
02:13between our countries.
02:16That reset I think can be meaningful.
02:19Starmer and Harris participated in a business roundtable to explore how renewed relations
02:24could benefit trade.
02:26The economic relationship is worth around 120 billion euros and supports thousands of
02:31jobs on both sides of the Irish Sea.
02:34Relations between the two countries have been strained since the UK voted in 2016 to withdraw
02:40from the European Union.
02:42That's affected political and trade structures of Northern Ireland, which is part of the
02:46UK.
02:50Around 100 people have gathered in Prague for a rally to demand more protection for
02:55Ukraine.
02:57Organisers said the aim of the event was to honour the victims of the Russian invasion
03:02and to call for greater international support.
03:06Demonstrators created a map of Ukraine using blue and yellow umbrellas.
03:11They also held up a banner saying Let Ukraine Strike Back.
03:16The protest aimed to highlight the continued need for defensive measures to protect Ukrainian
03:21airspace.
03:23The Czech Defence Ministry said in July that it had so far provided Ukraine with more than
03:28259 million euros worth of military aid.
03:33That includes tanks, rocket launchers and various types of ammunition.
03:38The Czechs have been one of Ukraine's staunchest backers and were the first country to send
03:43heavy equipment soon after the 2022 Russian invasion.
03:53Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has won the Golden Lion for the best film at the 81st
03:58Venice Film Festival for his movie The Room Next Door.
04:02He received an almost 20-minute ovation when he collected his award for his first English
04:07language film.
04:08It stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton and tells the story of two friends who rekindle
04:13their friendship only to discover that one has terminal cervical cancer.
04:18Almodovar, who dedicated the prize to his two stars, has previously called for greater
04:23access to euthanasia.
04:36The other big winners were Nicole Kidman, who walked off with the Volpe Cup for Best
04:40Actress for her role in Baby Girl.
04:44And Vincent Landon won the Best Actor prize for The Quiet Son.
