00:04We're still in the first week so I'm going to start with a quick
00:07refresher for her of just sticking her face in the hot box.
00:11Marking and rewarding for showing me some good sniffs that she understands
00:14that's what I'm looking for in the shaping process.
00:17And then from there I'll bring out a second box, a cold box, and I'll
00:20continue to mark and reward her showing more interest in the
00:23hot box than the cold box. Or if we're still
00:27a little further behind that point just sniffing the hot box
00:31and then not marking when she sniffs the cold box just to continue that
00:34understanding of the box with this smell in it is what
00:37gets you paid. All right.
00:41Good girls. So we can see that right off the bat.
00:45She immediately remembers what we've been shaping.
00:49Good. See her sticking her face in there a little bit really smelling it.
00:55Yeah. Good girls.
01:07I'm also using a little bit of opposition reflex.
01:13Pawing at it's not going to get you paid. There we go.
01:17Good girls. All right. One more of those and I'm going to bring out the cold box.

01:38Bring her around. Smell both. Start with the cold.

02:01Good. All right. She's starting to skip that first one entirely so I'm going to
02:08switch the boxes real quick.
02:18And I'm going to start at the same one because I don't want to create a pattern
02:22that's always the second one. See so she skipped it.
02:29Good girls. You can see she could smell it in there. She had a little bit of a
02:32change of behavior and interest in the box.
02:38Good girls. So you can see already from that when she sees two boxes she's
02:47already picked up that it's usually going to be the second one so she can
02:49distinguish it. So now I'm trying to break that pattern.
02:53That second box is always the hot one. It could be the first one.
03:08There we go. Let's swing her by the first one now.

03:29All right. Same thing again. I'm going to switch out the boxes.
03:36I'm going to bring her to the hot box first again.
03:39See she wants to skip it and go straight for that other one.
03:42She's saying this is one it's been. There. You can see that she kind of does a
03:50sniff and then looks back and goes oh crap that's the one that gets me paid.
03:54Let's try this again. I want to bring her to this one first.

04:12Good girls. I'll bring her to this one first.

04:33Right there. I'm waiting to really. She was pawing at it. I don't want to mark and
04:36reward the pawing. That's just frustration. I want to mark and reward
04:39the nose into the odor.
04:44Yeah. Really getting some sniffs in there. She's trying to just do these drive-by
04:48ones to earn food and do it as fast as possible which is kind of one of the
04:52downsides of this method.
04:57Good. Through very small increases in the threshold we kind of fight against
05:03that resistance to want to turn around and look at us right away.
05:08Good girls.
05:13All right. One more switch.
05:17She's skipping that first one because that's where she thinks it is.
05:21Yeah. You can see the recognition on that second one that there's something
05:25different in there. Smelling that's what's getting her paid.
05:32Yeah. Good girls.
05:40One or two more reps and I'm probably going to call it.

05:48Do want to swing by this one first because I don't want her to see she's
05:52learning to skip that first one already because she doesn't know what to do
05:56with it.
06:00Because she doesn't think there's going to be anything in there.
06:19See she's she's thinking that that first one never contains anything
06:26too much pattern recognition in the beginning rather than
06:30odor discrimination. So little things.
06:36Yeah. Good girls.
06:43Yeah. I got excited and double click that doesn't mean anything for us.
06:49That was a really good one because she wanted to skip it and went back to it
06:52because odor was in it. So I'm going to jackpot that.
06:56And then also I'm going to call it a session on that one. I'll tune in for the
07:00next improvement.
