Angela Rayner hits back at critics over her Ibiza dancing clip

Angela Rayner rejected criticism of her dancing in Ibiza while on holiday.The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of downtime and said she tried to be a good boss.Ms Rayner was filmed recently dancing in the DJ Booth at a superclub in Ibizia.The Cabinet minister was spotted jumping, dancing and cheering at Hï Ibiza in front of a large crowd as smoke cannons erupted. A remix of Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know was playing in the background.The clip was shared by celebrity DJ Denise van Outen on Instagram, who described the moment as a “surprise booth rave up with Angela Rayner”.Ms Rayner, who has spoken about how she enjoys 12-hour long raving sessions in the past, showed off some of her moves as she boogied alongside Australian music producer Paul Fisher, known as DJ Fisher, in the huge Ibiza club.“People will have an opinion but if I’m on holiday for a couple of days, I’m on holiday for a couple of days,” she told Times Radio on Thursday.“We have all had a dance at one time in our lives.”

00:05I mean, you can criticise me dancing, it is subjective, but...

00:10Honestly, so what? You were out in a club,

00:13having a relaxing time. I mean...

00:15Good on you, but... I mean, I take my job really seriously,

00:19and what I do, and I work, and I'm always in Parliament,

00:23and I'm always doing what needs to be done, and I'll continue to that.

00:25But I also believe, as a former trade unionist...

00:28I mean, how did you keep...? I would have been in bed by that time.

00:31Oh, Fisher's a really, really great guy.

00:34I've known Fisher for a number of years, and I just think,

00:38you know, you've got to have downtime,

00:40everybody has to have downtime, but I do take my job really seriously,

00:44and I like to talk about what I'm doing to help other people.

00:47I'm not criticising you, I just wondered what you thought about the uproar.

00:53At times, people like to look at that element, or, you know,

00:57yes, I'm working class, I like dance, I like dance music.

01:01I got criticised for going to the opera, if you remember.

01:04I wasn't allowed to... I was a champagne socialist for going to the theatre.

01:08I think it's harder being a woman in politics than a man.

01:10I think we get judged very much.

01:13I mean, the day I walked into Number 10, which was an incredible day...

01:19Do you think you'd ever say that? No.

01:21But for someone from my background, and for me to walk down

01:25that famous street and to go into Number 10 was an incredible moment.

01:30There was just so much more commentary on what I was wearing.

01:33And I was like, you know, I've spent years, I came off my council estate,

01:38I've worked really, really hard, I brought my child up when I was 16,

01:41and I've worked my way to be respected to get to this position,

01:46to show that I've got worth in what I'm doing,

01:50and you're talking about what dress I'm wearing or what jacket I'm wearing.

01:54I'm trying to do a job for people here, and that, I think, distracts sometimes.

01:58And it's frustrating because it's like, let's talk about the substance.
