Tugendhat apologises for prior Tory leadership

Tom Tugendhat began his leadership campaign launch with an apology on behalf of the Conservative Party. He said: "The Conservative Party owes you better. Politics isn’t a game and we all know the cost when government isn’t sober and serious.” Reflecting on the end of the last government, he added: “I saw duty give way to ego. 00:15Now like you, I witnessed the recent political trauma with a combination of depression and anger.

00:21I witnessed the failed coups and the successful ones. And I saw duty give way to ego.

00:28That's why I'm standing before you today. Because this country can change. We must change.

00:36And Britain deserves better.

00:39We need a different government. One that will serve our country with conviction and act for you.
