00:00Where to go for better health? To the Alps. Nature is accessible, generous, varied and
00:07healing.
00:08The concept developed by doctors of the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria, makes
00:21tourism rhyme with health.
00:22There are a lot of urban associated illnesses that could be treated in a health tourism
00:27format in the Alpine. Every six deaths worldwide is because of fine dust. And the Alpine Ridge
00:34is like a green island in a sea of fine dust.
00:41At 380 meters high, the majestic creamy waterfall in Western Austria is the largest in Europe.
00:48The cloud of water it produces has been recognized for centuries for its therapeutic benefits.
00:54The village of Krimel offers cures through breathing the human air. Celine and her husband
00:59regularly come to treat their asthma and chronic bronchitis.
01:02We do a lot of inhalation exercises. It opens up my bronchus. And since then, I have never
01:11had a cough.
01:12These water droplets are 200 times smaller than those in an asthma spray. These small
01:18water droplets are inhaled, they are negatively charged and they induce an immunological
01:24mode of action. They reduce the inflammation of the lung.
01:29The professor, who specializes in ecological medicine, developed the HealAlps2 project
01:33on the basis of clinical studies. He is supported by the European Union's Cohesion Policy, which
01:39provides 85 percent of the almost 2.5 million euro budget. Its team is proposing that all
01:45Alpine countries, France, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, help local
01:50players to list their natural resources.
01:53The aim is to develop an adaptive therapeutic tourism offer.
01:59Everything that is very specific for the Alpine region can be put into value in terms of health.
02:05The hiking trails, the better air, the cooler air in times of climate change, and Alpine
02:12pastures, the raw milk products, the honey.
02:17In Krimel, therapeutic tourism has given rise to new ideas. This hotel, for example, has
02:22been adapted for allergy sufferers and the village is coming back to life.
02:27Our economic stakes have changed in the last 15 years where we are in this health tourism
02:33sector. We could increase the number of guests of about 35 percent. The region is remote,
02:39but we could increase also the jobs in the region, especially a lot of female, high qualified
02:46people that stay now in the region.
02:49With the lack of snow, the HIALT II project is also a chance for the lower ski resorts
02:54to breathe.
