One of Dreamworld's senior tiger handlers has been taken to hospital after an incident
00:08
involving one of the park's tigers.
00:11
The Queensland Ambulance Service arrived at the park to find that the 47-year-old woman
00:16
had serious lacerations and puncture wounds to her arm.
00:21
They said she was pale and feeling unwell, but that her bleeding had been managed well
00:26
by first aid on site.
00:28
So the patient obviously had received some serious lacerations and puncture wounds from
00:33
the animal.
00:35
She was quite pale and feeling unwell, but generally well and was able to be transported
00:40
to hospital.
00:41
There's always a risk of infection from any animal bite and that will be part of her treatment
00:44
regime from the hospital.
00:46
The trainer was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital at around 9 o'clock this
00:52
morning where the hospital will manage any infection risk.
00:56
In a statement, Dreamworld says it's an isolated and rare incident and it'll be conducting
01:03
a review into what happened.
01:05
But at the moment, its immediate focus is now on supporting its injured staff member.
01:12
The theme park has nine tigers in total, which make up its Tiger Island exhibit.
01:18
That exhibit advertises itself as a way for customers to get mere centimetres away from
01:23
the creature.
