00:00Primoz Roglic put almost two minutes into Ben O'Connor yesterday as Mike Woods soared

00:10to victory in his Maple Leaf jersey.

00:13The gap at the top of GC is now 1 minute 21, although that is unlikely to change today.

00:20Definitely it's a different stage compared to yesterday, but I think there will be less

00:25action in general, but we are definitely ready to support Primoz and if an opportunity

00:33shows up we will try to grab it.

00:36T-Rex Quick-Step are targeting the top three overall with Mikel Landa, but they also have

00:41other ambitions.

00:42We would like to get away from this World Cup with a podium for Mikel for sure, but

00:50also a stage win.

00:53Obviously I also have some ambitions there myself, but for sure from a breakaway is my

00:59best chance.

01:02Victor Campenaerts has been lively this week and given that Lotto Destiny have lost their

01:06leader Lennart van Eertveld, we can expect to see the Belgian or one of his team-mates

01:10on the attack.

01:11I think today it is not a steep climb, but still it is a 22 kilometre climb in the final.

01:18I think it is a little bit too hard for me, but we want riders in the break.

01:23We will see what we can do.

01:25The sprinters have had pretty slim pickings at this Vuelta, but if they can survive today's

01:29long climb, they might finally get a chance to go for victory.

01:35Does it look too hard for sprinters?

01:36Oh, that's a good question.

01:39I'm actually not sure, I think it will really depend how the GC guys go on the final climb

01:44and if it's control or not, but for sure it looks better than yesterday for sprinters.

01:50I think if I do the best performance of my life on the climb, there is a small chance

01:54I could sprint, but we'll see.

01:59Stage 14 is the longest of this Vuelta, at a shade over 200 kilometres.

02:03In the final 40k, the riders will tackle the Puerto de Letariegos.

02:08It's long, almost 23 kilometres, but the average gradient is just 4.5%, so a rider like Wout

02:14van Aert should be able to get over it.

02:16Either way, the GC riders are set to take a back seat.

02:23They're on this wide road, which didn't necessarily make it very easy for a breakaway to go because

02:28it was very, very fast and at the head, it's Bismarck-Leeserbike in those yellow jerseys

02:31who are patrolling things in the peloton.

02:33Perhaps they feel like Wout van Aert can take another victory today.

02:37There were six men in the day's breakaway, including several that we've seen on the attack

02:41in recent days.

02:42Navaez, Tejada, Campenaerts, Frigo and Meurisse.

02:46They were joined by 20-year-old Isaac del Toro, who is now the youngest rider in the race.

02:52However, they were given very little freedom by the peloton, with the gap never exceeding

02:56two and a half minutes.

02:58And that's because Bismarck-Leeserbike clearly had plans for this stage.

03:02The Dutch squad keeping the pace high, the average was over 45 kilometres an hour as

03:07they looked to control things for Wout van Aert.

03:10The leader of the points classification and the mountains classification has looked on

03:14superb form at this race, so no surprise to see him targeting a fourth stage win.

03:20The Belgian has no shortage of admirers, even within his own team.

03:25It's a really nice guy and really nice to be with him in the team.

03:29What does he want to do today?

03:31Winning.

03:32Yeah, that's clear.

03:34It will still be a really hard stage with a tough climb in the final, but we believe

03:40as a team that it's a chance for us.

03:43So yeah, we really want to go for it today.

03:49The riders heading into the long descent after the first climb.

03:52The breakaway's lead was down to under two minutes as they approached the intermediate

03:56sprint just inside the last 50k.

03:59Vismalisa Bike still chasing relentlessly and the six leaders had no doubt realised

04:04this probably wouldn't be their day.

04:07The Puerto de Letariegos is far from the hardest climb at this Vuelta and the pace remained

04:12high even as the road began to rise.

04:14Kian Utterbroeckx now driving the peloton as three men dropped from the front group,

04:19Campenaerts, Moerisser and Del Toro.

04:22They would soon be caught.

04:25Narváez, Frigo and Tejada still plugging away with a lead of around one minute as

04:30they reach the halfway point of the climb.

04:36Here goes Narváez who is leaving Frigo behind with 23.4km to go, 6.9km from the top of the

04:43climb.

04:44The gap's going out to 40 seconds now and Narváez wanting to take his opportunity in

04:50his Ecuadorian road race champions jersey.

04:53He leaves the Italian Frigo behind.

04:57Narváez didn't resist for long though and soon it was all back together again.

05:02Various teams trying to hit the front before the descent but Van Aert was still well placed.

05:08The Belgian picking up 10 more points towards his polka dot jersey.

05:11Just over 16k to go now.

05:16This is Primoz Roglic who's got a problem.

05:18He's got one teammate with him and this is Dani Martinez.

05:21He needs a bike change, the car is there and Roglic who is second overall in the general

05:27classification on this descent.

05:29It looks as though that Roglic has taken the bike of Martinez.

05:34No major panic for Roglic who returned to the bunch with 10k to go.

05:38Having sat quietly in the peloton all day, Alpecin Deceuninck then hit the front for

05:42their sprinter Caden Groves.

05:44Van Aert was now all out of teammates but DSM Firmenik Postonell also had men working

05:48for Pavel Bittner and so rather unexpectedly it came down to a bunch sprint.

05:57Alpecin Deceuninck getting to the final left hand corner in first place.

06:02Plancard is doing the lead out for Groves while Van Aert is right on the wheel and he's

06:06looking for a professional victory number 50.

06:08Bittner is there for team DSM Firmenik Postonell, so is Wadzeck.

06:13Corbin Strong is looking to try and deliver a victory.

06:16What can the rider from New Zealand do?

06:18Strong is coming but now is Plancard who's starting to wind it up.

06:21He comes to 175m to go.

06:24It's Groves who hugs the left hand side of the barriers.

06:26It's Groves versus Van Aert.

06:29Who's going to get the upper hand?

06:30Van Aert in the green jersey.

06:32It's going to be close on the line.

06:33Who's going to be a throw?

06:34And it looks as though Caden Groves gets the better of well Van Aert and it's well to stage

06:40victory number 6 for the Australian.

06:44While Van Aert was busy collecting green and polka dot points in recent days, Groves was

06:48just biding his time.

06:50The Australian and his team got it spot on today, taking victory despite all that hard

06:54work from Vismalisa Bike.

06:56It's win number 2 for Groves at this race and his 6th at La Vuelta in total.

07:00I didn't actually expect today to be as sprint as it was but Jumbo controlled it and to have

07:07a man on man sprint against Wout is pretty awesome.

07:11Today I didn't hesitate and I think I did a really good sprint and it felt like quite

07:17a bit of a drag race against Wout but in the end it was good enough to beat him.

07:22Groves taking his 18th career victory ahead of Van Aert, Strong, Vacek and Mikel.

07:27Van Aert has now come second three times at this Vuelta as well as taking three wins.

07:32The GC favourites all finishing safely in the bunch.

07:37As expected it was a quiet day in the fight for red with just that minor scare for Roglic

07:41in the final but things are definitely going to be shaken up in tomorrow's 15th stage.

07:49Van Aert outdone by Groves today but he still holds the green jersey by over 100 points,

07:54the Australian adding 20 to his tally in second place.

07:58Van Aert also extends his lead in the mountains competition to 23 points.

08:02He is followed by a trio of UAE riders.

08:06There's no change in white with Carlos Rodriguez still 17 seconds clear of Florian Lippovitz.

08:12The second week concludes tomorrow with a mammoth mountain stage finishing on the fearsome

08:17Quito Negru.
