00:00They call this the world's biggest food fight.
00:02It's the annual Tomatina Festival in Buñuel, Spain.
00:06This year's installment was held on Wednesday.
00:08Over 22,000 people flocked to the town to throw 120 tons of tomatoes at each other.
00:13These revelers also competed to win an Iberian ham, or jamón ibérico.
00:18The tomatoes were loaded up for delivery the day before.
00:21Sergey Ribes, son of farm owner José Miguel Ribes,
00:24says they are ripe and therefore juicy so that when they are thrown, it's more fun.
00:28According to the BBC, the festival originated with a spontaneous food fight at a parade in 1945.
00:34It was banned for a few years in the 1950s by the Francisco Franco dictatorship.
00:38But unlike a tomato, a party like this can't be crushed.
