You only need a Rolodex and some Post–its

00:00If I told you there was a way to run your business with rolodexes and post-it notes, you'd think I was crazy, right?

00:10Well, you'll be half right because you can run your business with rolodexes and post-its.

00:18If you go back, I mean, when I started my whole career, my working life back in the late 80s,

00:29that's basically how we were running our business.

00:32We had rolodexes and post-it notes, and that's how we were doing stuff, or equivalent to post-it notes.

00:41And that's how we were doing everything.

00:45We didn't have computers.

00:46We had a telephone, rolodex, and some paper, and post-it notes, and stuff.

00:50So when people say that they need all sorts of different types of software to run their business,

00:57it's not always strictly true.

01:00Now, I'm going to tell you that you probably can get rid of half the apps, and the software,

01:07and the tools, and things that you're using to run your business,

01:10because if there are people running their businesses with rolodexes and post-it notes,

01:16why can't you basically do the same?

01:19Now, I wouldn't use a rolodex and post-it notes right now,

01:26but the idea is that you can run your business with, say, Apple Notes,

01:33or with one app that can do all of these things, can do these two things.

01:40There was a time where I got annoyed with software,

01:43and I got so fed up with FileMaker and everything that I was using,

01:48and I went to Apple Notes, and I thought back as to how I was running,

01:53or how I was working before not running a business,

01:56but how I was working before in the small businesses that I was working with,

02:01and it was post-it notes and rolodexes, and it was working fine.

02:05So I went to Apple Notes, used Apple Notes for absolutely everything,

02:10and obviously an address book, and that was all I needed.

02:15And funnily enough, I can't see a reason why I shouldn't do that.

02:21So you need to understand how the process is with your business,

02:26and then find the tools to fit,

02:29whereas what I find is that people go and get tools

02:32because they're told from different people from different areas,

02:39and use these tools, and then suddenly realize nothing is working,

02:42because they haven't thought about the process.

02:44They've thought about, oh, I need to go and get these tools.
