00:00The 2024 Vuelta a Espana after three days in Portugal is back in its home country in Spain
00:06And it's the king of Spain the king of the Vuelta a Espana three-time winner of the Vuelta a Espana
00:12Primoz Roglic back on top with this new team for a Hansgrohe
00:17Which was rebranded ahead of the Tour de France where he had a nasty crash
00:21Fighting his way back to be here on the start line in the Vuelta a Espana and today
00:26Winning the first race for the new sponsor Red Bull up here at the top
00:321,535 meters the Pico Veracruz
00:35It's Primoz Roglic taking the battle taking the win over the gradients of 20% on this
00:4214.6 kilometer climb over Lenny van Eetveldt of Lotto
00:46Destiny and there was a lot to unfold and a heck of a battle that we had over those
00:5114.6 kilometers to get up here to the finish line
00:54Let alone the three categorized climbs that we had on the day in this day of around
00:59170 kilometers as I said
01:01We're back in Spain after that Grand Depart in Lisbon
01:04The race started with Wout van Aert the Belgian in the race leaders red jersey
01:09Well, we knew he wouldn't keep it today
01:10but we're gonna get to the battle he had out there on the road a group of five worked his way off the front and
01:17Two of those riders remain for the longest that they could those riders Bruno RMI and Castrillo
01:24They would be the last two riders and we'll get to how long they lasted here in a second
01:29But first I want to talk about this intermediate sprint, which was before we got to this final climb the Pico Veracruz
01:35Well, it was Wout van Aert and Caden Groves battling for the third place points with the two men still up the road picking up
01:42The first two points it was a tight sprint van Aert in the red jersey over Caden Groves
01:46Who's holding the green jersey for van Aert van Aert got it?
01:50Which means that he'll be in the green jersey tomorrow because you know it van Aert lost the red jersey today on this climb
01:56That's way too steep for his abilities
01:58But Wiesman and Lisebaeck their team was all about Sepp Kuss the winner of the race last year and Kjan Utterbrooks
02:04The two leaders of the team and to be frank Wiesman and Lisebaeck didn't have a great day
02:09It was Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe the team of Primoz Roglic doing the work for much of the day
02:15It was only until we got to the base of the final climb right before the steep bits that team UAE Emirates with Jal Almeida
02:23Adam Yates, Pavel Sivakov, Powerpack team, which also includes Brandon McNulty winner of the first stage
02:29Those boys took over for a bit and blew things apart
02:31It was Sivakov who did that last bit of pulling to bring in our two lone riders
02:37Right at the base of the steep bits at five kilometers to go. That's where they hit this rough
02:43Pavement this cement I drove up it
02:45It was nasty super hard even in a car to push down the accelerator let alone on a bicycle churning your cranks
02:52The two men were sweeped up by Pavel Sivakov who was frankly on a great ride today
02:57And if you're looking back in the bunch at this point out of the UAE team
03:00It was just Jal Almeida that remained Adam Yates who we thought would be on a good ride today was a bit washed away
03:06He was back to Recep Kuz who was also having a bit of a hard ride and up front after all the work of team
03:12Red Bull
03:13It was Primoz Roglic looking as good as he always does
03:16Riding on the front and on that cement hard section with the gradients tough steep 20% Roglic
03:23Enric Mas and Lenny van Etveld
03:26Those three riders would ride free then we got to the point where they churned right
03:30It eased up for a bit before the final kick up here to the finish line
03:34That's when we saw a group coming from behind first
03:37It was Felix Gao from Decathlon then a couple of other riders American young American Matthew Ricciatello
03:43Well, he pronounces it Ricciatello, but we'll let him get away with that. He's a better rider out there
03:48That's for sure. Also with him was Jal Almeida those three with Gao they join up
03:54They joined the front trio and then we have six coming up here to the final and the KG veteran from T-Rex
04:00Quick-step Mikel Landa
04:02He starts to pull his way up to the group of six and we see them there right in the final kilometer
04:07Landa does what he needed to do. He launched an attack right away
04:12It wasn't successful
04:13But what this Bannier did is we set up that counter-attack by van Etveld van Etveld fired up the road
04:19Primoz Roglic such an expert on these steep climbs and such an expert at getting the bonus seconds van Etveld nearly had him
04:27He celebrated a bit too soon. But frankly, I don't think that was the reason he lost the stage
04:33It was Primoz Roglic coming around the outside on that right-hand bend to the finish line
04:39Celebrating for the victory and mrs. Roglic was up there waiting for him as well. Super kind
04:45I gave her a ride up here to the finish line
04:47She was really nervous, but super happy to see Primoz celebrate for victory the first for team Red Bull
04:53It was van Etveld picking up second, Jael Maeda there in third, Enrique Mas in fourth, Felix Galen fifth and Ricci Tello the American
05:01Getting sixth place on the day and what this does for the GC
05:04Well Primoz Roglic back in the red jersey where he spent so many days of his career three-time
05:08Vuelta a España winner eight seconds ahead of Jael Maeda earning the bonus seconds on the day which helped him do so
05:1532 seconds back for Enrique Mas and the standings on today the stage of today
05:20What an exciting day and think this is the first of nine summit finishes in this three-week race
05:25We still have nearly three weeks to go in this race only stage four
05:29But Primoz Roglic showed today that he's ready to fight again for another Vuelta a España victory
05:35Stage victory today for Red Bull for Primoz Roglic the Slovenian in the 2024 Vuelta a España
