00:00Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Syed has reminded Perikatan Nasional

00:08Chairman Muhyiddin Yassin of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's power in appointing a prime minister.

00:14In a post on X, Azalina said that Article 43 Sub 2A of the federal constitution stipulates

00:21that the king appoints a prime minister among the elected MPs who, in his judgment, is likely

00:26to command the confidence of the majority.

00:29She also said that Article 40 Sub 2A states that the Agong may act at his discretion in

00:35the appointment of a prime minister.

00:38Azalina said the king's discretion cannot be questioned, adding that no one can tell

00:42the king what to do or who to choose as prime minister.

00:47Earlier today, Muhyiddin spent about an hour giving a statement to the police over a campaign

00:51speech in Negeri.

00:54In his speech, Muhyiddin had questioned why he was not invited by the former king, al-Sultan

00:59Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to become the prime minister after GE15 in November 2022

01:04resulted in a hung parliament.
